I remember those day, Debra. Long ago! This is a lively up-beat poem and a really good contest entry. You have names lots of hobbies you once had and WILL have again, whether the more active once will return, depends of the rest of your time with growing children! LOL. Good luck in the contest. xsx Sandra

Hi Sandra :) Thanks for the great feedback! I still bake... more out of necessity than anything else these days though! I bought so much stuff for scrapbooking, card making and cross stitching over the years, I do hope to one day have time to use everything I have stashed away!Last year I got it into my head it would be fun to make jams, pickles and preserves... so I bought a how-to book, a maslin pan and a sugar thermometer, then we went picking blackberries... I still have a freezer full of blackberries and my lovely new pan is unused on top of the kitchen cupboards....!
Kindest regards as always, Debra :) x

That sounds just the type of thing I would do! I bought a lovely sewing machine, I was going to make all my clothes and lots of wonderful things to go round the house, and it's still in the box! Just soooo busy! Retirement is not what we are told it is! We are busier! xxxx

This is the best I've read from this contest (& only 1 or 2 more to read!) Your approach is very original, your POV completely turned-around from the other entries. Even without having had kids, I could relate to every word, then the ending, wow! Of course! It's so poignantly true & also a funny twist as well! Great job & good luck in the contest.

So creative you are in all your hobbies especially forming them all together for us readers to enjoy.
I seem to want to have another beat in the last line, 3 verse try Not a single chance till they're grown

or I've no chance till they're all grown
or No chance till they're all up and grown

just a suggestion

Debra, this is a great entry for the Hobbies contest and should do well in the voting.

The rhyming quatrains work well and there is a nice easy flow to your poem.

Good luck in the contest.

Steve

Excellent entry in your own contest, Debs, and thanks for sponsoring.

I 'joined a gym once too' TOO, but only went the once - true! :-)

I'm sure every parent will empathise with your words, though only a few could express them so funnily in rhyme.

I like it all, but was particularly impressed with the clever alliteration in:

'tick and tock' followed by 'tucked up tight'.

Thanks for the smiles.

I reckon this will contend strongly.

Good luck, Ted

Love the artwork that you choose for your poem I love the words to your poem.
I thought it was very cute.
I did more hobbies when the children were young.

I can tell from your poem profile and the last poem of yours that I critiqued, that you do not "sit and chill", you simply have the urge. Three young kids obviously take your time, but I reckon writing is really what you do to let it all out. If you have done those hobbies, you are Superwoman. Maybe, it's just a poem, maybe it's another time of your life, but you couldn't have done them all. Your poem is entertaining, well metered and rhymed, and should do well in the contest.

Hi :) Thank you for your great feedback! Glad you enjoyed the poem :) I have done all the hobbies I mentioned in my poem at some time or another, though not at the same time! The only things I still do are bake (necessity more than anything else these days!) read (when I go to bed) and take lots of photographs. I do hope to be able to resume some of my hobbies at some point! Kindest regards, Debra :)

I use to fill my time with may crafts. Knitting, crocheting embroidery. I used all the female crafts. I advanced to wood work ,electronics and radios. Crafts are good. But they change with your needs .Great work.

Hi Ellie :) Thank you for your great feedback. Woodwork sounds fun - my dad does wood-turning in his shed - he's made some lovely dishes and candlesticks and toys. Kindest regards as always, Debra :)
