Dean, you outdid yourself with this one. What a great homage to Charlie Daniels' most famous song. I, too, am a huge fan of the band. I was lucky enough to see them live several times. Great sequel to the song, and as always fantastic artwork. Bravo!

Thanks, jandeck. I'll take a "Bravo" any day of the week, my friend, LOL!
I'm a huge fan of Charlie Daniel's as well. I'm happy you felt I did his song justice, and I really appreciate the six star rating as well!
Watch for The Mooonshiner from Wolley Swamp (tentative title) coming soon! :}

Thanks, Nellie, and by the way things look now, I am going to need all of the luck that I can get...and then some! I'm very glad you enjoyed it.

If I had six stars, I'd gladly give them to you. Take my five for a fabulous, fun, and energetic tale. You totally rock Dean. I liked the illustrations, the colors, the lyrics. I even knew now what the Monkey's Paw is because I read it. You inspire such curiosity. My vote is for you on the contest.

A tour fe forcé, Dean, in every sense of the phrase!
(I was trying to figure out how I missed this the first time around - then I checked out my calendar and realized that was the week I had out of town company, and was helter-skelter on the site.)
Anyway, I just wanted to say, it was clear to me that this was in homage of the Charlie Daniel's classic - (the lines are too iconic to be taken any other way LOL)
I thoroughly enjoyed the read :-)

Thanks for reading it, and for only two measly member cents at that! That means a great deal to me, Leineco, my friend. A lot of people wouldn't even bother. I'm really happy that you enjoyed the poem, and I also appreciate your complimentary comments and exceptional rating. More than any of that, however, I appreciate you reading it in the first place.
Thanks a million, Leineco!

Being an avowed Charlie Daniels fan (my family doesn't know) this is just terrific. I found myself humming The Devil Went Down to Georgia as I read along.
Dean, your gift is one from God and I do enjoy how you have used it right here.
I like the line: Demons hissed with iniquitous bliss (now that sounds like a family gathering) and am always impressed with your word skills along with your artwork you lead the pack by a NY mile!
Nicely done. AT=/

Thanks so much, Jean, for everything that you've said here in this wonderful review. I only wish you could've had the opportunity to have read it when it was promoted, but the fact that you did read it for just two member, despite it's length, really means a lot to me.
Thank you for the fantastic comments, and for those six stars. I'm very grateful to you for everything, my friend!~Dean

Dean, I find one thing wrong with the site and that is people tend to only review what gives them monopoly money. From my perspective, we ought be reading the materials or authors that we like - or think we may like - and then give a reasoned review. Just jumping around looking for dollars does not (at least to me) translate in finding the best work out there. Ah, just me thinkin' again...that is dangerous I know.... Jean

I for one agree with you, Jean. If I like the author's work, I'll read the dang poem or story for free -- nothing, nada and zilch. But there are many here who won't.

This poem is every bit as good as the rest, however I only have one six star left. I'm saving it until I read some of your horror fiction.
Anyway, this is a great sequel to a song that is almost a poem in it's own right. I loved the concept, the word choices, almost identical rhyme scheme, and everything else.

I've always loved that song - weird, huh? LOL. This "poetry story" is six-worthy for the presentation alone, my friend (but what else is new, I ask you!) BUT the tale is marvelous as well.
Dean, the only stumble I see in any of your poems is meter - it doesn't quite roll off the tongue, but you offset that nit with your marvelous ability to thrill with your story (not to mention the incredible pairing of artwork to the word-weaving << which, btw, might not have the most flawless metering, but is fabulous rhyme!!!)
You are truly a master, my friend. I'm SCARED to think what would happen if you managed perfect cadence! (LOL)

Hah, and I'm still trying to, Dawn. I even work on this one, off and on. When it comes to iambic pentameter, tetrameter, and all that poetic jargon, I'm as lost as a blind man in a well with both of my hands tied behind my back, but I do try to make the meter, rhythm and cadence read smoothly. Heck, I even read it aloud to myself to see how it sounds, or have my seventeen-year old daughter do it for me. For the life of me, I can't see where I've gone wrong with the flow of this one, but you're not the first person to have told me that. So, I'll keep trying to work on it as best I can, to get it to read much smoother than I think it does already.
Thanks for the awesome review and constructive feedback, Dawn. And, if you ever have any suggestions of how I can improve a particular poem, never hesitate to let me know. My mind's an open book!

I guess the thing that bothers me most about 'picking nits' is there is a LOT of poetry out there I (personally) can't stand, (by famed poets! shhh...don't tell my horrible secret! LOL) AND I KNOW a lot of people who think they hate poetry BECAUSE of that same type of poetry.
Who, I ask you, could read this one you wrote (for example) and not enjoy it (if they like the genre, of course)?
Isn't that the goal of writing, or at least ONE of the goals?
So, as much as I feel obliged to mention meter as your reviewer, as your FAN, you are a favorite writer of mine, AND this poem stands out!!!

As you are of mine, my friend. I will diligently keep banging away at my old keyboard, as I know you will. I just want to entertain people, and make them feel...something, anything, depending upon the mood my muse is in that day of course, LOL.
Thanks so much for your kind words, Dawn. You're a good friend, and I value your opinions very highly.

:) Ditto.

Hi Dean Kuch,
I really enjoyed your poetic folk legend, English folklore abounds with stzories of people confronting the Devil and using some special gift to defeat him. I believe there is an Irish legend of a 'fiddler' cheating the Devil by getting him so swept up in a dance he didn't notice his victims were dancing into a church. There are many more in Cornwall of similar vein.
