Your words: I was going to say they need to be read aloud. But, if they are read aloud, what a waste not to dance to them.
Your lines have an almost perfect pitch. I leave the "almost" because I am no expert on poetry. But, I do believe such an expert would confidently remove it.

Very nice, amahra, and you're right, slavery is one of this nation's biggest, nasty stains. The other, in my humble opinion, is the treatment of Native American Indians by the white man.
