Your story is what I want to be, and intend to be! I have no intention of sitting back being fed, or spoken about when I am not in the room. I intend to go out laughing. Good luck in the contest! xsx Sandra

Love it, Marisa. There is much to look forward to in old age, such as storming the Hill something that we can even do here in Canada. I was with ya all the way until the watching the grass grow part. I already watch the grass grow and let me tell you, it's a helluva great pastime. Erm uh hobby I meant.
Congrats on being in the story of the month contest. You got my vote provided you advocate for me and let me have your tapioca. ;-)

Senior writers have such vast reservoirs of memories to tales to tell and those things can make for fun writings.
My life of 76 years has so many memories I will have to spend another 20 years at least telling stories.

I say good on ya ... go for it! Seniors have a lot of good history behind them and many interesting life stories to tell. It keeps the brain fires stoked to write and conjure up stories.
As far as I know, where life is concerned, there is only one stop where we will all be getting off. Until then there is no rule, written or otherwise, that says we have to be sidelined because of age. Engagement is the key to keeping mentally fit and relevant.
Thank you for your review! Write on my friend!

I think you're right about little old ladies and "cute." But I think a lot of little old ladies don't mind being considered "cute." In fact, I think they eat it up. Luckily, I'm a little old man. Little old men are never "cute." Thank goodness for that!

Well, I can tell you with certainty, I will be one little old lady that will not like being considered cute.
Thanks for the read, I greatly appreciate it.

Your essay is a cool reminder of the advancing ages and advance mental preparations one ought to take so as not to be taken unawares. I am already in mid-seventy and I hardly make any mental note of it. I liked the quote of Mark Twain: ''Age is an issue of mind over matter. If you don't mind, it does not matter." I agree with you that writers have an edge on the aging game. That is why I want to continue to play this game as long as my brain allows.

I too like the Mark Twain quote. Age really is a state of mind. And I do think writing keeps us relevant and helps to sharpen our mental acuity. Below is another quote I like very much re: age:
?I think people would live a bit longer if they didn't know how old they were. Age puts restrictions on things.? ― Karl Pilkington
I'm with you, as long as I can still put words to screen in a cohesive manner, I will continue to do so.
Thanks for your most inspiring review.

Ha one of my favourite poets Dylan Thomas and as luck would have it that poem do not go gently into that goodnight is my favourite.
Grow old disgracefully is what I hear you say a great write. And I think anyone who talks down to people with a wealth of experiences, who can not only talk but relate to some historic events, well those young people are missing out on some amazing stories. A lovely and at times highly amazing read

Yes, I think a bit of irreverence in our advanced years is definitely called for.
You are so right, young people who dismiss older people, based on age alone, are truly missing out on a wealth of knowledge about life. It's important for the generations to share with one another.
Thank you for your enjoyable review, I'm glad you liked this piece.

Too cute. Oh too too cute. Hell, I am not waiting until I am 80. Crap no, I started already, and I am only a very young seventy-almost-four. I am naughty and bawdy, and probably will be banned from my kid's house this Thanksgiving. Oh well.

You are my hero! Glad you got a jump on things and I'm with you on this. Why not stir things up by doing it our way. If nothing else, we'll have great fun and that should be worth it.
Thank you for the generous six stars and for your inspiring review.

You're absolutely right, being cute in old age is not a great thing. You do lose credibility, it's like what you say is not relevant anymore. I myself will never retired, that's another thing that puts you in the cute phase again. Great writing.
Oh mom you say the cutest things (I'd capitalize "Oh, Mom, you say...)

Hey JM,
Yes, people don't realize how condescending it is to speak to an elderly person as if they are four years old. There are so many predisposed ideas about what old age is or should be, and most are skewed.
I do hope to maintain my mental faculties into my advanced years and be given at least a modicum of respect for having done so.
Thank you so much for the very generous six star rating, JM, I greatly appreciate it.
I always enjoy your reviews.

Dying is for those who have given up on life. This is very well written with a smooth flow of words, making for a very good read.

Great Shakespeare said that old age is nothing but second childhood. So they use the word 'cute' generously to the oldies too. I am not sure we would be able to escape that when we reach there. i loved your write up .It made me smile .

Yes, it is true, old age overall, is viewed as a second childhood. So I say we should go forth with the enthusiasm of a child if we are fortunate enough to reach an advanced age. Still having the mental acuity and zest for living as we did in our younger years.
I'm very pleased that you enjoyed this piece and I do thank you so much for the six stars.
