This is lovely, Gretchen, and I enjoyed reading it so much. As we get older, we do live within our memories and it's a sweet pleasure to do so. Very nicely done. Marilyn/BeasPeas

Oh, Gretchen, we've all been there. But not with the hallucinations. That would be worrisome to a loved one.
A heartfelt poem, with a special line that reminds me of my short story of the super-centenarian:
The tree they planted years ago
still rustles in the breeze
She cannot see the dead one
killed in winter's freeze
Great job, Gretchen.

Aaaaoooooww! I'm procrastinating the ending of the chapter I'm working on. I think you'll see why when you read it. Thanks for asking, though

I love your poem. No spags just suggestions for some better flow maybe only if you want ok!
She sees her late husband
(-as he's) napping in his chair
a nursing home('s), (-her) best bet
Great reading ignore the suggestions if you like. Where's Alex and Co or did that finish?

Memories are the most treasured things we'll ever have. It's unfortunate that they are so easily lost.
Great rhyme and rhythm.
Great visuals, very vivid.
Awesome descriptions. They speak of a life remembered more than the life forgotten.
If only she could live in that world of happy memories forever.

It's a lovely poem Gretchen. That used to be a common thing to set on the porch in the evening and visit with the neighbors as they pass by on and evening walk. We always had a porch swing. It brings back wonderful memories of my childhood days. Hugs. Nancy

She sounds like a sweet lovely lady to me. I think she should stay right where she's at. And don't listen to the foolishness. Very nice. I bet those dinners were that good old time cooking.

You have created a good visual of how an elderly
person spends her time and her mind during the
long days and longer nights. This doesn't seem
much of a reward, but at least she had that life
once. Better than being in prison somewhere. Right!

I haven't seen any of your posts for a while. I am glad to catch this post. I enjoyed reading and I can understand what you're saying her. I often do the same thing. Life passes us by so quickly. Thank you for sharing this wonderful poem.

Hi, Gretchen....
_ I can't tell you how moved I am by reading this.
_ On so many levels it touches me.
_ Like you this morning, I could be this same person.
_ Especially now, with the dissension between me and my son. I can see myself sitting alone in that chair on the porch if something happened to Tom and I were left alone.
_ I've always been a person who can be by herself and not care if other people are around me. With only my music and my writing, I'd be doing just fine.
_ Superb choice of artwork. The clasped hands make quite a statement.
_ Wish I could give you a '10.'
Cheers & Blessings
