Hello Brett,
Nice poem. Consider writing - Spilled Perfume instead of simply Spilled "perfume"

Best regards,
Olivia

Hi Brett,

I hadn't read your notes and felt that this would make a great country western song.

Spilled perfume - I love that. It's such an original way to express the age old theme of lost love. Lou

Isn't I strange how the scent perfume burns back memoirs of happier days?

The first perfume I ere bought for my high school girl friend and every time I smell it, my memories takes me back to those 1950's days & nights to the many nights o of cuddling with her..

It's really interesting, seeing a poem on a theme I posted on this week (The affair). Your treatment is very different to mine. I am very impressed. The image of the 'spilled perfume' is a highly effective vehicle for capturing the loss of something beautiful and sensual. Furthermore, I felt the line, 'Our love's been shattered by a slamming door', brought across a relationship that's broken down completely: one that is now expressed through anger and possibly violence. I also liked the repetition of the 'spilled perfume image' to convey the decline of their relationship. I think this is more effective than the repetition of some of the other lines, though they do have the effect of someone struggling to find the words to convey their feelings, which may be what you were aiming for.

I would be really interested to know what you make of my poem on the same subject.

I really liked the way this flowed, it was so smooth. I think because of the repeat of spilled perfume.

This read aloud so well, and certainly made me think it could well be the lyrics of a song.

Great write.

Thanks for sharing

Hi Brett - this is a good lyric poem. It flows along like a song and the repetition of the perfume lines adds to the smoothness of the flow. You have repeated in lines 4 and 7 - 'this is the hardest thing I'll ever do' - maybe this is intention. Repetition does occur in a song. Good poem. Warm regards Dorothy x

Hi Brett,

I really enjoyed the Country lyrics. I like how you rhyme the first two lines in every verse, then repeat the last line over in all of them. You are so talented in writing stories and poems.

This is great in the country music tradition. Apparently the woman hasn't done much to conceal her cheating ways. The perfume must have a powerful influence on the narrator and the new guy both. The narrator seems all to ready to give up on her. Guess he doesn't approve of second chances. Are there things he's done that's caused the woman to look elsewhere? How about giving the ladies a say--they're often done wrong by a cheating guy! Happy trails. judi

Naw, she's just your typical, every day, run-of-the-mill female cheater. That is all she ever was and all she will ever be. Glad you enjoyed these Country lyrics.

This is one of the classic forms of country music that I call couplet and and comment. The comment always repeats an idea and acts like a refrain though it varies slightly each time. In this case is the spilled perfume of the title. You have a great formula; stick with it.
