A very well-written story/poem explaining the word sonrock that we find to it on next to the fireside. A very interesting story with other indigenous words like damper and Billy tea.

Great job on this poem, Craig! You sit your reader right in front of the fire. I could almost feel myself relax, such a calming atmosphere you've created with this piece.

Your poem captures the magic of fire and song, and being at one with nature. My favorite part is:

"Then ,drifting off, we hear the breeze,
and creatures scuttling through the trees.
Each sound a new awareness brings,
of our place in the scheme of things."

Too bad this wasn't entered into a contest. I think it would win.

I most enjoyable poem! Luv it! ~~ Connie

Thanks so much for the wonderful comments and super rating, Connie. I'm pretty sure from previous postings of yours that you enjoy the great outdoors too, so maybe that's why it appealed. Most grateful, Craig

As an ex folk style singer and composer I couldn't help but find a tune for this , a two parter with and A and B music so five times through and it was done. this was a thoroughly enjoyable experience.

I wish I could hear the tune you came up with for it. And thanks for counting the stanzas for me - I quite forgot to do that. Ten, really? Most grateful for the kind comments, PG. Cheers, Craig

Hey Craig. This is a fantastic poem. I really enjoy your firelight font and artwork in the dark of night.

There's nothing like sitting around the fire playing songs and singing, eh?

A wonderful poem that took me right back to nature's astrodome. A very cool way to say it by the way.

Nice job!

Gloria

Craig, This is a very interesting poem you have penned. You used very good descriptive words and lovely imagery. It sounds like a very tranquil place to be. I love to hear the crickets and frogs at night sitting out in the cool night air! Blessings, Teri

Oh, me too, Teri! We have families of frogs that come and sit on my study window at night, trying to catch their dinner. I love having them around. Thanks for the lovely review - Craig

Fantastic!! Perfect rhyming and a lovely cadence... I spent a lot of my childhood and teenage years camping out, sometimes with only a blanket over branches for a makeshift tent, beside a river so that you could hear the current all night long... utter peace. I just loved this... it brings back a ton of memories and the presentation is divine, all campfire colours in the dark. Bravo.

Sounds like a nice life if you like country living and if you are healthy enough to care for the plants and animals. Neither of us would be healthy enough. Enjoy your home where you belong. Thank you for sharing

By the tone, it sounds as if my poem has offended. That certainly wasn't the intention. I write about things that give me enjoyment and that are meaningful to me, and this is one such poem. I don't expect everyone to find pleasure in the same things I do. If it upset you, I apologise - Craig

Not at all. No offense. Not sure what I said to make you think that. Sounds like an idyllic. Enjoy

It is a great evening when you can set alone, with a friend or lover or a bunch of friends along side the fire. The light, its warmth and inviting relaxed feeling. No city lights and noise to take away the beauty of the night and tranquil talks with those whom you are sharing the space. Very lovely picture you paint. Sherman541 ( and a new word too, sonrock)

Thanks very much for the lovely review. I know many people don't enjoy camping, and each to their own - but I find a campfire with friends one of the most fun things imaginable :) Cheers, Craig

What a nice poem of taking life at a slower pace, enjoying the simpler things. Descriptive (and I learned a new word ~ sonrock). Rhyming and flow are excellent. An enjoyable read. Marilyn

Thanks very much, Marilyn. Taking life at a slower pace becomes more appealing for most of us the more we realise it doesn't last forever, I think! Cheers, Craig

In the end, we only have the one day we're experiencing at any given time. It's easy to get tied up in knots over stuff. Hopefully we just learn to accept things better. Marilyn

Lovely poem, so well written with striking imagery. Your author notes fill in the gaps for the reader and I noticed nothing jarring. Thanks for sharing your poetry, I like the name of the book and this is another good entry. Ana.
