Thanks for the review, Meeshu. The poem was inspired by a TV interview with survivors of a recent bushfire in New South Wales that swept through a small coastal township destroying 70 homes.
Comment from Octavia
I really like this one. Even though clearly free verse, the rhythm was flowing.
Great story about resilience no matter what the catastrophe.
Reminds me of the pioneer women of old - that grim determination that was so well expressed.
Very well done.

A heartfelt tribute to the victims of the bushfires in New South Wales, Tony. Apart from the tragedy itself in this case was the shock from the vicious speed it took through the town and then the devastation it caused on its way, Like an evil hellish spirit it took some houses and not others, Giddy

Yes, as always a great tragedy. I saw it on the news last week. They say 70 homes destroyed. The TV image of someone fishing burnt cutlery out from the ashes of their home was the genesis of this poem. We had local fires the same day, but on nothing like the same scale.

I LUV this, Tony. So amusing and this lady is priceless. I can identify with her steely backbone and stare. God bless her. The older we get, the more determined to triumph we are. I am assuming the bushfires in NSW are stopped by mounds of dirt. Nothing is going to get by this lady. Marilyn

Hi Tony. God bless them. I identify with the scariness of brushfire as my entire town had to evacuate in California due to fire in 2013. Marilyn

A very powerful free verse poem about a person's resilience. I think it usually falls to women to get the ball rolling, so to speak. We tend to think it is what it is, and now, let's do something about it.

Well done poet. We watched the devastation on TV. I am a New South Welshman myself, so my heart was with those people looking for remains of their lives amongst the ashes. Thanks for sharing.

It takes a lot of strength to come back from a catastrophe , but people do it all the time, a testimony of how resilient they can be. I don't know who that woman is but she looks strong and ready, a great picture to go with your descriptive words. Thanks for sharing.
