A very well-written acrostic describing the meaning of lickpenny in a fun way. We sometimes think we buy a bargain but afterwards duscover there are many costs that brings more expenses.

That was what a few people felt about the purchase of Alaska, Sandra. They might have a different view now. Many thanks, Craig

Thank you poet - you've made me learn something new and valuable to me. Of course I knew that Alaska was bought from the Russians but not when and for how much.

I had to laugh when I read this:

On this day (March 30) 1867, American Secretary of State William H Seward and Russian diplomat Edouard de Stoeckl reached an agreement that the United States would purchase Alaska from Russia, at a cost of two cents an acre. The deal mostly met with approval, but some were not happy, believing the price was too high.

Happy Easter,
Apky

Craig, This is a very well written poem in the Acrostic format. You used very good descriptive words. You used great imagery with your words as I could picture what you were saying as I read this! An enjoyable read! Blessings, Teri

I love today's word, unique and easy to remember. Your poem flowed so well I hardly realised it was an Acrostic poem, such great rhyming, a joy to read, love Dolly x

Thanks very much for the lovely review, Dolly. I's an odd one, but as you say, probably one of the more easily remembered. Cheers, Craig

Great acrostic. I really enjoyed reading "Lickpenny." Beyond being well done it playfully captures the mood and circumstances surrounding the purchase of our 49th state. I also love the irony in the acrostic as the purchase of Alaska cost us nothing compared to what we gained. Great job!
