I've never heard of contronyms before, but it seems that there are quite a few of them to bamboozle language learners. When I worked in NATO I remember a Belgian colonel in our department who was for ever in despair at the vagaries of the English language. "How can you chop a tree down, and then cut it up?" was one that I recall!
I guess that any mate who learns to cope with you might find ways of doing it to his advantage rather than to yours!
