Hi Craig,
I love this word. 'Rustic' is a word that we see all the time, but I've never seen the word "rusticate". To me it almost infers getting back to one's roots and back to a simpler life and back to the basics.
I enjoyed reading your poem, Craig. It's fun and it's light, and it made me smile. Excellent pairing of picture and poem too. One could certainly "rusticate" in such a 'rustic' cabin in the country. My daughter in-law owns a restaurant in Orangeville, Ontario, Canada . The name of her restaurant? .... why, it's 'Rustik'. :)

Thanks so much, Connie. Not too many have noticed the picture :) Remind me if I ever make it to Ontario (and I'd love visit Canada one day), to stop in at Rustik for dinner :) Cheers, Craig

This speaks poet is happy to welcome everyone to come and join their game to play with their motley gang and rusticate with him; well said, well done. Keep Writing -- DR ALCREATOR

Hi, Craig,
Rusticate seems to be a fancy term for living in the country without any indoor plumbing or running water. Since I consider staying in a hotel without room service to be 'camping,' I do not think I will join you in rusticating.
Thank you for sharing - great photo of a nice little cabin,

Haha, oh go on... what a challenge it would be to turn you into a girl-scout! Thanks for the fun review -- Craig

I was a Girl Scout! I complained loudly about each and every camping trip. My leader used to tell me that she sincerely hoped I married a man with money.

A word which is close to resuscitate and I suppose in a way they have a close meaning. Yes I would love to live in the country but where I live I have both the city and the countryside on my doorstep, a fun poem, love Dolly x

So-o-o-o this is what they mean when they describe a venue as rustic and inviting! :) Someone needs to pass this one along to the travel industry! Can picture the ad now: "Your chance to rusicate in the beautiful foothills...." ! :) Love it! ;)
Thanx for the smile bright and early this morning!

I don't think I've seen this original meaning of 'rusticate' in use anywhere, though its modern meaning of suspending a student from a place of learning is quite common in British English. There is a suggestion of Bacchanalia in your poem - a romp in the hay, perhaps? The sort of thing that might get you rusticated from a co-ed school.

Hmmm, if it suggests a wild, drunken orgy, it's quite unintentional! My parents, much to my chagrin, didn't see fit to enrol me in a co-ed school, so although I might have been close to getting rusticated a time or two, it wasn't for that reason. Many thanks, Tony.
