Hello CDR
I have often wondered about the bed. There is a case for it being a romantic gesture, in that it may well have been their first bed when they were first married. I have also wondered if he had anything stuffed into the mattress - he was a canny (read 'tight bastard') chap with regards to tax and money and this may have been a way to circumvent some or other tax or law.
The Parthians, of course, were not departing, only pretending to: so perhaps - like Chris Marlow - he maybe only faked his death?
Still, this is yet another good addition to your collection, which always provides interesting reading.
I wish you well
cheers
phill

Thanks very much for the kind words and the informative possible explanations, Phill; most appreciated. Craig

He just had to get that last dig in, didn't he?! :) Wow, that sends a biting message ... not even his best bed, but his second best bed.
What a great way to convey the word 'Parthian'. You've taught me yet another new word. Thanks, Craig!
Cheers,
Connie

Now, let's not be too harsh on him, Connie. I believe he threw in the bedbugs as well ;-)
Thanks for the great review!
