Hello Bill, this is a very well written free verse telling the futility of war. You go into great detail - yes, they did not die in vain, but Oh what a waste of life and for what? I loved this poem, the kind you do so well. I wish you god luck in the contest. Warm regards Dorothy

What can be said? Thank you (again) for your service...and for giving a voice to every man and woman who has, through the years in every war stepped forward and said "I'll serve!"--knowing the ultimate sacrifice may be exacted upon them.--Karenina

I think this is a very good entry for the Remembering Veterans (free verse) writing prompt.
Your verse honors those who have fallen and those who are yet to fall.
Well done and thank you for sharing this moving piece with us.

Hi Bill! WOW! This is an amazing poem. I was captured right from the start. The flow of it is perfect, and it thoroughly and gracefully "SALUTES" all who have so bravely served their country. God Bless them and God Bless YOU! Thank you so much for the "SALUTE" to my father. He would be so honored. This poem is EXCELLENT -- I wish I had more than 6 stars because it deserves so many more! I am also honored to be able to say I co-author books with you--such an AWESOME writer! Wishing you a much deserved win in the contest!
Respectfully with Admiration and Love,
Cathy

A "SALUTE," Cathy! May I say first, "Co-authoring with you is an honor!" Having an awesome writer such as yourself to express admiration for my work is a God-send. The "SALUTE" to your father is "So little for so much in return." He stood tall, and was quick to say, "We did it our way!" Now, what role did you play while we were away? Silly question, Commando! You were working your fingers to the bone supporting our effort to come home alive...a "SALUTE" to you, HERO!" As always, best wishes, good health and God Bless. Respectfully with Admiration and Love.

A BIG "SALUTE" TO YOU! Thank you again. YOU'RE MY HERO! God Bless.

Beautifully written throughout its irregular rhymed stanzaic structure and content immortalizing all the dead veterans' sacrificed lives for the behest of their country.
I like the ending stanza best and above all the title. Well done and good luck for the contest. Blessings.

Your poem obviously was extensively researched, and pays tribute to the many generations of Americans who lost their lives fighting for their country.
Best wishes, Bill,
Don

Dear Bill,
Writing in free verse is never easy. One cannot rely upon rhyme and metre to move the poem smoothly along. I never do it, but appreciate those who try. This is a great example of the metre. You have captured the essence of the "salute", not merely a required greeting to a higher rank, but a mark of respect and honour to all who serve and ofttimes die. As a vet myself, I applaud your writing.
Regards
Reg

Yes, we owe all who have fought for freedom a huge debt. I was allowed to see an advanced showing of 'Midway' and it truly brings to life the sacrifice unbelievably brave men made. If not for those that flew and fought we would not be the USA today. An amazing movie. I was on the edge of my seat the whole time trying to help the pilots hit the stupid carriers. We were seriously out gunned and still won the battle. Well done sir and thank you for you service. Rox

What a tribute, and how thoughtful. War is never easy, and rarely is it clear. The cost doesn't just come in lives lost but a loss in how we see ourselves. Thank you for this poem.

This was a fantastic story in a poem. Well thought out. And clearly written with astounding visual imageries. Good flow of rhythm and rhymes. Nicely done. God bless you :)
