A very well-written rhyming poem with excellent repeating refrains and a good dose of alliteration without being overly done it abused. The reader can feel the winter winds.

Just to clear up something; did you mean willowing or winnowing.

Sandra while in farmng parlance winnowing is a term used, "as wind blows the chafe from the grain." I am using it in a literary sense as in,"the winter wind winnowing its way through the grass"

Okay, I understand I was just confused when I notice you mention willowing in your author notes.

Hi JLR, I liked your poem, I have to admit to being a bit confused at first as to your rhyme scheme until I got to the bottom and read your notes. Is this something you made up or is it a specific type of poem? I've never seen one like it, I don't think. Then again, I've learned so many new forms here I'm beginning to lose count! :)

Susan I made this poetic form up with the refrain being used as the beginning to anchor the stanza's in rhythmic meter

I hope this happens before long. I long to see the beauty of spring return as winter is slowly ushered out by winnowing winds. Lovely and lyrical piece.

June, we all yearn for the warmth of sun cast over our shoulder as we see the plant's flowering and trees exploding in greenery.

I like the sounds of your poem and all the fun alliteration. I also like how you show us that the trees breathe and drink in the water. The rhymes are evident but this unique format and irregular meter seems freer than most set rhyming forms.

I could almost feel the winnowing winter wind relax its grasp, as the spring took hold after it. Of course, here in Texas we will see this back and forth take place several times, even from one day to the next, until winter finally gives way to the spring. Still, it's a wonderful thing to witness, and now, after having read your poem, with a new perspective. Words flowed nicely and the image you chose, compliments your work as well.

I much enjoy your interesting rhyme scheme here, J. It creates the motion of the wind dipping in and swirling around the trees and leaves and then rushing out again.

Very nicely done and great luck with the Contest Committee. :)

I love this one JLR. It is so poetically graceful and your reader feels the sting of winter slowly leaving and bringing in the fresh spring air. I also love the presentation and intent of this poetic art! Good luck. xoxo Kiwi

This is an excellently composed literary discourse, also beautifully written, with some great alliteration, a skilfully and deftly scribed narrative, that gives a great description of the winds affect on trees and their accompanying leaves, well done my friend, blessings Roy
