I like this. The thrill of the hunt and adventure no matter the sacrifices that had to be made. The bright burning competitive juices flowing strong through your veins. You weren't going to be denied! Thanks for sharing this inspirational and well written work. Well done!

A "SALUTE," Jeffrey! I certainly wish I had some of your kind words from voters in the booth. Thanks for the excellent review, and taking time to read my work. Great hearing from you, my dear friend. Best wishes for an awesome week ahead and God Bless. Respectfully with Admiration, Bill.

Your use of local dialect and dialectal expressions immediately draws the reader in and gives the account great credibility. By your descriptions and images, even the reader will be drawn to that pond. Your allusion to the Guiness Book of World Records will draw the reader back in if you worried you might lose them. By its name it is a universal theme. I also like how you completed your writing by referring to some of your opening thoughts. This is well written.

Ah, the addiction of fishing is real - it is a bit like treasure hunters seeking gold. I witnessed it with my father-in-law and brother-in-law. Thank goodness my husband seems immune :) I liked this story and can find no fault.

Awww, shucks! Even though you didn't beat Joey's world record yet, I know you will. Your love of fishing and determination will make it so. Yes, dreams do come true and miracles happen! Course, the miracle will come from God, but I told Him you deserve that big 'ol
shell cracker more than anyone! This is an AWESOME fishing true story entry. I love the picture, the title, and all you share here. Excellent writing, along with your natural ability to entertain, makes this a winner for sure! Wishing you all the best. Now, go and enjoy a wonderful Sunday on Merritts Mill Pond. Have a beer, marvel at the deer nearby, bait that hook and go get that fish! He's a waitin' for ya, but you can outsmart him. (How do I know he's a he? Cause if that fish were a she, you'd already have her hooked!) I am honored to be co-authoring several books with you, Bill. Knowing you're happy makes me happy, too! God bless you--You're the BEST!
Respectfully with Admiration and ponds, lakes and oceans FULL OF LOVE,
Cathy

Hi Bill, this a cracker of a story for the contest. Very good entry. I'm only puzzled that you could go fishing. Here in Spain we were in full lock down until a week ago. All we could do was to shop for food, gas and the bank. Go fishing? No way!
Good luck. Ulla:)))

I thought it was interesting to read about your hobby in this piece and I could see your enthusiasm for wanting to catch a bigger fish. I definitely think you should keep going, I think it's good for our mental well-being as well to have something to focus on. I thought this was a nicely written piece.

You should never give up on your dream, Bill. You'll catch the biggest, I just know it. Of course, we will all be wanting to see the photo!! What a lovely story, that young lad, Joey Floyd, must be so proud, to have caught the largest shell-cracker at just 17 years of age. Well done, my friend, this is a wonderful contest entry. Good luck! :)) Sandra xx

Nice, you realized your dream, catching the big One. I really liked this part, and made me laugh :"Now, the real test--should I continue to go out, get rained on, mosquito bit, bend my hooks, break my line, etc., while trying to catch a new world record shell cracker? You betcha! For after all, I believe dreams come true and miracles happen." Thank you for sharing and good luck with the contest.
