Your poem meets the syllable count. Your poem is an easy read due to your choice of words. The picture matches the poem. I was surprised that the river was green when I saw it and your picture of the river has a hint green on the water.

The river flows over limestone, thus the green color. Thank you so much for your thoughtful review.

This is thought-provoking and I'm wondering what historical narrative the poem invokes - who is crossing where into freedom? Fugitive slaves fleeing to Canada? And the crossing the river could also be metaphorical to cross from this world into Heaven. Best wishes in the contest!

Various landscapes have impact beyond their physical nature as markers of an era of history. Your words pay homage to the Niagara River in a poetic way as the boundary to blessed freedom in days of slavery.
"in the afterglow of sorrow's sunset" is a lovely line.

This good Etheree poem reminds us the history of crossing the Niagara River - once a gateway to many for freedom the people ever long for; well said, well done; thanks for sharing this. ALCREATOR

Hi there,
not the easiest format to work with. I like your use of alliteration especially ) Let it shine from your distant shore in the afterglow of sorrow's sunset.(

You've written an excellent etheree for the contest
with the correct syllables to the form
and excellent description of the might river.
A long journey to the river, but freedom is an undeniable goal.
Wouldn't want to try to cross in the winter, though.
Well done.
Best wishes in the contest.
Robert
