A good ending conveying the limitation of the relationship. Not like a Band Aid means the pain lasts, right? Love is like that, penetrating deeply and returning time and again. Thank you for writing.

This is truly outstanding. If I were judging it would have my vote as the winner (and this is hard for me to write as I am entered in the same contest). It is the description of the feelings that does it for me, they are so vivid, it brings the characters to life totally.
Just one minor thing. It might be good to put in the notes what kept them apart. I presume it's Covid, but whatever and even if so, hopefully one day we will forget this year, and dated memories will be invaluable.

This writing is so true to life, the knowledge that we have to say no to someone we loved, and maybe still do. We always know in our hearts when it is over. The poem captures feelings so well, and the image is perfect. There's some darkness here, and seems like someone needs to step into the light.

A tinge of sadness I felt reading this well written short story. May me a memory from the past. I loved the sentence 'Her voice was like a butterfly, gently tickling my ear.' Love can be all-encompassing and difficult to forget despite our best efforts. Good luck in the contest!
