Folded Flag

Melissa, you capture the essence of this sad moment when a dead soldier's wife is presented with a flag by an officer. May I suggest replacing "New" with "Folded"? That one word could convey more meaning to the reader if the poem stood alone without the photo. Rod

Sugarray77,
This is a solemn yet poignant entry in the 6 word Poetry contest. You've captured in these six words the duplicity of deep pain as expressed on the wife's face and the real tragedy represented in the receipt of a new flag to the widow of a loved one who died in service to his country.
All the best in the contest,
Eugene

Nobody wants that flag, Melissa. I do need a new flag. Mine looks kind of like the one that went through the Civil War, it's all tattered at the edges, all torn from the winds.
Time for a new flag... but not one of those.
Very sad, I can't help but feel for this woman in the picture.
Susan :)

Thank you Susan. Yes, it's very sad... maybe too sad for posting on FS, but it resonated with me.

That's a great poem. Your six words spell volumes - the grief and agony of all war widows and the pain of loss.
Excellent imagery and visuals and terrific artistic presentation.
Good luck in the contest.
