So many times in life we suffer consequences of not speaking up when we should have - or expecting someone else to magically know how we feel. It's happened a few times to me over the years.
This was a sad Valentine's Day story, Barbara:-( But I'm pretty sure things will work out.
A good chapter, Barbara.

Thank you for the support. I'm curious if either of these stubborn people are going to give in.

Ali and Cord certainly know how to complicate things. Given her nature, Ali certainly seems better suited to life in Texas and maybe handling domestic cases just as she did for the women Pat had abused. She'll be more satisfied with that than corporate law. Maybe she feels she owes it to her family. I suppose Cord will have to fly to New York to make his case. I know they'll work things out. judi

You're welcome. I know you'll talk some sense into them. Ali would be much happier in Texas. judi

Can Cord and Ali's relationship be saved? Well, up until a day ago it was just fine, such as it is. Now that all the side quests are done for Ali, the story has to go back to a romance novel. But... the romance, for all appearances was a done deal. So, a break (drama/conflict) had to happen, so the resolution (man chases woman at train station or airport scene where they declare their love) could happen. Then they kiss a live happily ever after.
Here's the issue to consider during the final draft. You don't want your characters to be smart on Monday, then dumb on Tuesday, then smart on Wednesday, then...
It's the same as being brave and bold facing Roger, then little girl weak facing Alan. Scared to be in NY, but will face a fire, kidnapper, rapist and so on. Can't go back to NY but did instantly before.
The thing is, this problem isn't new. Ali was always from NY. From day one. Also, they don't have much of a relationship. It's been less than two months, and they've only kissed. And been on three or four dates.
I would look into these 'real and honest' issues in a romance novel with, smart, professional adults in their thirties. Are they acting like that here?

Hi Barb, you've put Wednesday the 19th but that is this Sunday!
This was awful! Why don't they just tell each other how they feel instead of telling themselves what the other feels which is all wrong. I'm so pleased I'm not at that stage of my life. Phew, it must be such hard work. Well, it's all in Alie's hands now, and she hasn't got long to do it. Well done, this was an excellent lead up to the last chapter. :)) Sandra xx

I know this situation all too well. I am happy and content with my marriage that has lasted for more than 40 plus years. However, if I had found the courage to tell my very first real love how I felt, barring something unforeseen, I would have probably been married to her for an even longer time. We men often get in our own way, because we do not know how to say what we feel, and how to ask for what we really and truly want.

Thank you for sharing. I am wondering with these two stubborn people who is going to make the first move. We'll find out Sunday, if either of them.

Hurry up Sunday.

Very good chapter, Barbara.
You were able to stem the "love tide" a bit almost to western stand-off. Let's see who gives in first, if anyone. They are both being stubborn wanting the other to soften and give in.
Looking forward to the next post. Curious minds want to know.
Cheers to a happy ending.

Excellent chapter, Barbara. It's a sad story, so many people fight because they don't see eye to eye.
Thank you for keeping the chapter short. I have a hard time reading long chapters.
The story grabbed my interest. The dialogue is believable. And the characters seem real. I would you recommend it.

I am curious who, if either of them, are going to give in first. I can't wait to find out. I have added that missing quotation mark.

Standing on its own merits this chapter served as a well-developed and well-rounded story. However, I think there was a slight lack of continuity between Cord wondering in the previous chapter what was bothering Ali, and the time it took for that to be brought up in detail in this chapter. I hope you'll be able to tighten this up during revision. kay

It's all one chapter. I just divided it for FanStory because my fans like shorter posts. It won't be separated in the novel. Thank you for the kind review. I made the correction. Thank you for the catch.

I always read A+B as one chapter, I just figure Cord wouldn't have been able to keep quiet about it for as long as he did - just a thought

What a sad situation. Two hard headed people that think they are right. It happens so many times in our world. You did a great job, and I hope you put them back together again. Take care and Happy Valentins Day. Shirley
