Hi Melissa,
A very nice entry for the 5-7-5 Poetry contest. I could hear their calls. Of course, that melody is locked in my head. I've heard it so many times when we still had our cottage on the Washdemoak. I loved falling asleep to their calls down the lake. It was pitch-black when I turned off the bedroom light. You couldn't see the hand in front of your face. But the loons call was like a plea. Nature in rawest form. "Haunting echoes" indeed.
Thanks for sharing! It made me remember special times.
Good Luck in the contest!
Hugs,
Kimbob

Who was it that wrote Call of the Wild? Jack ... London. This could have been an introduction for a chapter of his. Well done. Haven't read anything from you in a while. Have you been well?

Hi Tom. Thank you for your lovely review. I love Jack London's writing. So wild and free. Perhaps that could be an inspiration for further poetry... we'll see. :)

A poignant piece that captures the call of the loon on a lonely, misty day. I can hear it echoing a across the lake in the early hours of dawn. Perfect artwork for this beautiful haiku for the contest.

I don't suppose those sad sounding loons are really as miserable as they sound. We have the curlews and some of those owls sound pretty miserable too.

This was a good 5-7-5 poem. It adhered well to the contest guidelines. I like that the poet used vibrant and vivid words to help the reader grasp the concept. Great job!

Yes! What a perfect description of the loon's song. It is definitely haunting and seemingly lonely and full of despair. You captured it perfectly, and the picture sealed the deal. I bet anything that this one is headed to the winner's circle!! Good luck. xo

The picture shows peaceful and silence. Yet the haunting echoes can be scary. They can break the silence and make the loneliness become more lonely and even become in despair.
Loneliness cannot be easily healed.
Thanks for sharing.
