I truly enjoyed looking back with you, on your life with Zoe. I could feel your love for her as you talked about her pet name and movie night. Long before forty-four years of marriage, you become one person. Of course, she is still with you, and will remain, for the rest of your life. Thank you for writing about her. Your love for her makes all of us feel good as we read about the two of you.

I'm not sure what I would do if Elaine was the first to leave this earth before me, I'm pretty sure with only God to talk, I may want to talk with Elaine, but it's not a question I can ask at this stage, I call all four girls in my life as simply "sweet girl" blessings Roy

Roy, thank you for reading, I sure didn't plan it that way. But you know, man plans, God laughs. Terry.

Yep, that?s true

Hi Terry, I would just like to say that you are one of the not craziest people I have ever met. Huh? I admire all that you do to keep Zoe's memory alive. She was an extraordinary woman and spirits like hers never die. She couldn't represent so much inside and outward beauty, vibrancy and zest while alive, just to have it die when her body gave out. That spirit will hopefully carry you the rest of your days. I know that because everything I have learned about her in the last couple years has touched my life. Why? Not sure, but maybe it was because what you had as a couple, comes out as you in a friend. Zoe is a phenomenon of sorts, and she made her mark on your life, and on this world. I don't know if you could clear the spirit that lingers, even if you wanted to. Which I know you don't want to. And I won't get all mushy, but on August 3rd, I hope you put on your wedding video, pour a glass of champagne and toast to your darlin and the years you had together. And since she is there in spirit, pour a glass for her too, as nothing would surprise me, where Zoe is concerned. It may be empty in the morning, to confirm The Sweet Baby will always be there.

LOL, you might be right about the wine! Debi, thank you for your super six-star review! I think you can expect me to do that very thing. Terry.

Terry, know that you can count me as one of your friends. I haven't forgotten your gift to promote one of my stories, though I have forgotten which one it was. Maybe I have a touch of old-timer's disease. But I ask myself, who would do that, but a friend?
I'm like you, don't much like to socialize, especially when it means leaving my house. But one can never have too many friends. Malcolm sounds like a great pal, and I'm sure that Zoe is there every minute of every day, though she might skip out during movies she doesn't like.

Sol, LOL, your review makes me laugh. I don't remember which story it was either, but I do remember it was a good one! Thank you for the stellar six-star review. Terry.

Thank you for sharing this post with us. I enjoyed reading. It caused me to remember my dad used to call Mom, 'Silver Fox.' It always made her smile. Mom will often talk to Dad and tell him about things going on. I know she misses him.

The sweet baby is a wonderful saying for Zoe and I'll bet she loved being called it night and day.
This is romantic and shows how much you miss her. I want to thank you for your honesty. This essay about the woman of your life is terrific and entertaining to the max!

What a marvelous tribute to Zoe, your marriage and to you as someone who experienced a real relationship and still enjoys the companionship created. Those who are on the other side are not gone as long as we hold them in our heart and take out the memories to enjoy whenever we want. I don't believe your conversations with Zoe are one-sided. Answers come in thoughts that cross our mind and general feeling of not being alone.
Excellent post and, as always, just enough humor to keep it from becoming too sad. Happy Anniversary. ann

Ann, thank you for the excellent six-star review. I am also glad you found the humor that I did think was important to the story. Terry.

Very nice tribute, conversation, story, commentary, memoir, or however you may want to think about it. (smiley face here)
Nothin' in the world wrong with speaking to the deceased as far as I'm concerned. I'll even allow they might return a thought or two.
Best wishes. (lock him up)

My heart breaks all over again at just the mention or thought that your Sweet Baby Zoe is no longer physically here. My wife and I are nearing our 50th. I do not know what I would do if she should be the first to go. I do have the kids and grandkids to keep me company. I love the little things you do that keep here involved. No I do not think it is weird or out of place I see it as a coping mechanism. If it gets you to where you need or want to get to, good for you.

My mother used to have date night with my father ( rather his memory). This sounds beautiful and understandable. It made her feel good, close to him. She wouldn't mourn the loss, she would celebrate the joyful memories. I think this piece was stunning. Gretchen
