Typical 12 yr old boys antics, the stronger preying on the weak.
Good set up for what's to come.... A young boy who has a tendency to stutter, a young mom basically his age and a new life start over.
Hopefully Ginnie will see the real Alan/David if she finds out about his past somehow.

Good stuff, Jim!

Thanks so much, John, for your perceptive review. You've just identified an important plot point with your last statement.

And David was just thinking of hiring an apprentice!
and go running past my house. - There's probably a grammatical term for this, but I thing a high school teacher would say 'run past' instead of 'go running past'.
Best wishes.

Yeah, I think you're probably right. I'm going to change it. Thanks!

Just as well he intervened, and David is a very caring, sensitive, and wise person, but of course he'll have to watch his interactions with this kid as well. Interesting and well developed chapter. Well written too.

Thanks very much, Wendy. Even though innocent of the previous charge against him, I think he's become hyper-aware of that now and won't do anything to jeopardize his new path.
