Well, not having a sweetheart isn't the worst thing in the world. I mean, I've had plenty of pretty interests that I'd have been a lot better off without. I remember my conservative grandfather asking me one time on a visit if I'd ever found me a steady girlfriend. Not know what to say, I just replied, no Pops, I'm still just using everybody else's. Of course, I was being funny, which my grandfather thought was anything but. LOL.
Thanks for sharing.

You are right. One of my daughters concluded she didn't need one after 9 years of marriage and a divorce. So grandpa didn't get a laugh out of your little joke. No sense of humor. Lol

Thank you for sharing this contest entry with us. I would love to hear more about their relationship. I can see a few more posts about these two with a wedding headed their direction. Good luck with the contest.
I'll call you when you get home. (I'll call when you get home. I think reads smoother, who else would he call?)

Thank you Barbara. It is goor to know a expert in writing romance novels likes my story. As you know, I seldom write fiction. I always appreciate you telling me a way to improve the flow.

Ooooo, I hope there's more of this story coming. It seems she may have found her match. Many times, things happen when you stop forcing them. It looks like this is the case here.

Thank you Yvonne. I'm so glad you and other people seemed to like this story because I don't usually write fiction. I really appreciate the six stars. I'l have to think about taking it further.

I hope you do.

Nicely written.
I didn't expect Emily to be so gabby with Brian. Right off the bat she offered information that I thought her personality would hold back. Good for her.
Good luck in the contest.

Thank you Wayne. Most women try to reinvent themselves at some point. Emily is forcing herself to do things she has had trouble doing and now she is becoming more confident and she has some interesting thins to talk about.
Comment from Debbie D'Arcy
This is a lovely, well-written and credible story of a romance that wasn't fixed or manipulated but occurred naturally, drawing these two people together as a result of their common interests. It's a perfect length for this contest and has engaging content (the mother's dialogue provides a skilful change of tone and additional layer to demonstrate the pressures, sometimes, put on young people) with excellent pace. Small edit: she dressed nice(ly). Well done and good luck, Beth. Debbie

Bravo, Beth.... I know there must be man girls just like Emily..reserved and not quite sure about that first step. You wrote the story very well and broke the ice with Brian perfectly. I loved the story and wish you the best of luck in the contest. Good one!

Thank you Carol. This is based on my oldest granddaughter. She is Emily in so many ways an she is reinventing herself and becoming so much more outgoing now that she is seeing the world. She has that man yet but I'm hoping.

Oh, no! You ended just as it was so good! Anyhow, as for myself, I prefer to write tales with open endings that give the readers cause for thinking. Thank you for posting this romantic tale!

Jim, I've never been a fiction writer but I thought I give it a go and here I am getting six stars for it. What a nice way to start a morning.

Okay, at last, a six for you from me. Cherish it as I keep them as close to my vest as Emily had, not letting men in her heart.
I hope there is more to come. I have a daughter that remains as Emily ... was? Only you know.

Thank you so much Tom. I think it is harder for some girls than it once was to learn the art of being at ease around men. I actually based this on my own granddaughter and it it will come true for her.
