There are many faces of war, but for me the postives do not even come close to cancelling the negative. We should come together in peace not war. A good post.

Hello! I think this is a truly wonderful tribute to your husband, as well as to all the American soldiers working for Iraqi peace.
The only flaw is that your rhyming pace is sometimes off, and seems unnecessarily wordy at times. Over all though, I think you've done a good job of metering and rhyme. Again, wonderful subject matter, and thank you so much for sharing it with us! Cheers, Laura

Thanks for your review and comments. I realise my rhyming and metre is a tad off here and there, but this was a really difficult piece to write and construct, and at the moment, I'm taking on board comments like yours and will have another look at it when I can face doing so (it's still a touchy subject really, but one that I wanted to put out there). As a point of interest, me and hubby are both Australians, and he went over there as part of the Australian Navy to train the Iraqi patrol boat crews. It's heartening to know that our two nations are fighting side by side, along with the British, to preserve world peace. Thank you again for your comments and review xoxoxoxoxo

Thank you for your kind reply. I just want to tell you that I have GREAT respect, admiration, and awe for British and American soldiers who are risking their lives for freedom, as well as their spouses who have to go it alone for long spanses of time; constantly living in fear of their loved ones lives. It is an incredible sacrifice, and one that should inspire us all. My very best to you and your husband. Cheers, Laura

The irony of life is more glaring on the war scene. It's the killing and the destruction of the enemies that get the biggest publicity, those actively involved with smoking guns and deadly rocket launchers that are called heroes. Never the kind soldier who tried to save lives and limbs and are loved by the 'enemies'. All who returned safely home invariably suffer from the war traumas, have nightmares, etc. Does society give them the understanding and respect they deserve? Love the poem.

No, not always. And in my hubby's case, he's pragmatic enough to leave it where it belongs, and get on with his life. I wonder sometimes though, where those memories have gone, they are kept so hidden an buried so deep. Even though he fought as valiantly as anyone else, his nouse and intuition were what kept him and his contingent safe. That was his objective, apart from peace preservation; to bring his boys home alive and in one piece. This makes him a hero as well as what he did for those children.

Thanks for your thoughts, warm words and generous rating. Muchly appreciated Norzah xoxoxoxoxo

Beautiful poem, a lot of sentiment and caring coming forth. The structure was set up well. The flow and rhyme worked for me except for 2 stanzas in which you did not rhyme. For me that threw off the whole flow of the poem. Stanza 5 and stanza 8 had no rhyme on the 2nd and 4th lines, which was consistently done throughout the rest of the poem. With some adjustments to the rhyme the poem would be a 5 star in my opinion.

Nice job.

Thanks jshep. This is one of those poems that was hard to construct, hard to write, and while I know I've stuffed up here and there, I just can't bring myself to touch it just at the moment. This and one other have had similar comments and they are both works that I'll just have to leave as they are for now, in all their rawness. But thank you for your suggestions, which I'll keep in mind for when I can face adjustments....xoxoxoxoxo

If I had my way, I'd give you millions of stars for this truly magnificent writing! No news could ever capture the aweness of a proud, unsung hero. This is much better than the news cause it remains permanently placed within our hearts as untold stories remain locked within these heroes' world. This brings in mind my nephew who's been in the service since 2003 and is now in Afganistan.

Thank you so much PoetinTraining! Millions of stars......I think those millions of stars should be awarded to every person who has laid their lives on the line to preserve peace...In a perfect world, works like those in my poem would not need to be written, but a review like yours makes it worthwhile that I thought it necessary...Thank you from the bottom of my heart xoxoxoxxo

This touched my heart more than I can say, alpacalady. I'm thankful for all our men who came back. I'm grateful for our heros who came back to their families, who made it out alive. You have penned a beautiful, truthful, wonderful tribute to your Glen.

Beautiful.

....... * warmest regards, debbie*

What a beautiful tribute to Glen and all the unsung hero's of the world. There is so much more happening inside those coming home than we will ever know. I'm sure he is grateful to have you by his side and is honored by your words.

Bless you and your kind words VSCS. I still haven't shown this to him! He's very protective of his time over there, but I just wanted to do SOMETHING. The part he played, apart from protecting his contingent and our peace to the very last, with these children is a heart-warming aspect of the Iraq situation that more of us need to see....

The kind words extended - including yours - from those who've viewed this work have been like a salve to an open wound....xoxoxoxxoo

Hi
I really liked this. I'm sure to Glen the children pictured seem like heroes too living with such uncertainty and still difficulties obtaining the things we often take for granted. I'm sure during many earlier wars also these brave lads got on with things and did there job.

Hi there,

This is such a heroic tale and from a lot of different perspectives too!

The bitterness just bubbles dignified beneath the surface, a justified yet grotesque silence, words that need to be shouted but are guaranteed to fall on deaf ears.

I heard yesterday the casualty figures on all sides, numbers that mean nothing to the politicians unless they represent votes.

soem very powerful images and the most powerful of all the picture used in your piece. Worthy of a symbolic sign for peace.

Regards,

Sleep....

Your kind words and review are appreciated more than words can express. It's a sad and frustrating situation over there - like any war situation I guess, but this one seems to be the most poliical and media driven skirmish in our history. Still, all the boys can do is their bit, which Glen did for the children while protecting his contingent and helping preserve our peace.

Bless you as always Sleep ... xoxoxoxoxo
