This was a very different poem, but I really liked the message. Couldn't agree with it more. Excellent imagery in this one. Keep up the great work, Alpaca Goddess. :)

Very thought-provoking, a little frightening and haunting. I agree --sort of-- with the premise of accepting all sides of ourselves, but I have this annoying little voice that says 'Be strong, enjoy, never succumb, life is too short, etc.' thank you for giving me something to think about. ann

you're right to listen to that voice Ann. It's only when we fear it that it grows too big for us and overtakes. This is what I have tried to get across in this work. We all need balance, and by accepting the dark side when it comes, then its visits will never be all that long.
Thank you very much for this review. I greatly appreciate your comments! xoxoxoxo

I am alone this darkened night
Looking within to find a light
My searching sees a landscape, cold
The valley of my shadowed soul
Escape is never meant for me
My foe pursues relentlessly
In sleep I'm watched with baleful glare
I wake and feel him everywhere
I know my life is intertwined
With his own barren, blackened mind
The mansions of my soul and heart
Display his sombre works of art
When he has left his presence lingers
With the cold touch of his fingers
Stroking fear across my face
He knows I cannot leave this place
I will be here when he returns
When lonely fire within me burns
His shadowed visits keep me strong
In hallowed void where we belong
A wonderful poem, scary but good
"I agree with what the writer says in he notes
"It is important to embrace these times of shadow, as they provide a balance to a healty human psyche."

I really like your poem, facing and experiencing the presence of ones dark side. I agree there is a place in everyone where fear lives and it comes to us when we are weak and low. It does challenge us to overcome and become stronger. Nice presentation as well. Robbin

This is a very good poem you have penned. My favorite part was where you said
I know my life is intertwined
With his own barren, blackened mind
The mansions of my soul and heart
Display his sombre works of art
Great wording and imagery. Hugs, Teri

This poem is somewhat an enigma, but definitely thought provoking. Its sad but the person portrayed in it doesn't seem to really want to escape the darkness. Has a very spiritual connotation. Like I said, an enigma, but a good one. Well written

You did get that spiritual thread I was trying to portray here! I'm trying to come to terms with my own dark side; to not be afraid of it. When we fear something, it grows bigger and stronger until it eventually overtakes...This is why I have attempted to encourage myself and others to accept these "dark visits". They do provide balance, and this is what we all need. Thank you very much for your cmments Luther. I also loved the reference to this being an "enigma". That is one of my all time favourite descriptive words! Again, thank you xoxoxoxoxo
