Gary, It's one hundred years ago, but I know of two men who fought in World War 1, and of course they have passed away. You have an exceptional talent for writing history poems. Excellent. Carole

Very insightful piece of poetry, that could possibly be of a soldier letting his family know the terrors of war... My oldest uncle fought in this war, And, since that time, wars have seem to always make headlines....My father, husband & son were in different wars....Think mankind has a tendency to unrightly so continue this carnage?

Writings From the Heart 'Over the Top 1914 Eastern Front.' A wonderful poem about the First World War you have created here. It has depth, it has honour, it has emotion, and it commemorates. Well done.

Classy is your work. Top notch and easy to read. I have yet to see one of your poems that don't catch my attention in a way few do. Thank you for sharing your gift.

A compelling entry into this ongoing saga. It sets the stage for the tension of battle and the hell of war, as life is quenched in its unrelenting wake. Well done.

This piece is very moving. You chose your words well to convey soldiers' emotions at a horrifying time. Your last line was haunting and gave me chills, 'As we prepare to die.' Nicely done. Too bad there wasn't a contest for this. I think it would do very well, indeed.

A rousing battle cry and the pathos, tears, and sorrow underlying it.

You've really evoked the mood of the battlefront.

A good read, dw.

Have a great weekend.

another heartfelt version of a soldiers voice. It must have been a source of ridicule for some to fight. As you point out who's land are we fighting for again. War doesn't ever make sense as to who wins for the better except who doesn't win for the better.
