It's hard losing people to alcohol, and I think the hardest part is when you want to reach out to them but they're too busy listening to the wrong people - ones who give them leeway to drink themselves to death.
Yes, sometimes we need to say something. But sometimes even when we do, they don't want to hear it. Either way, it's sad.
