This is a powerful story you tell
in your poem. How sad that the Japanese
disregarded the rules of war - but I admire
the bravery of the nurses and especially Vivian
Bullwinkle. thanks for sharing this story.

What an amazing lady. Your poem makes her spirit shine for this reader, Kay. I loved this stanza:
'Bullwinkle was hit - not dead
She played 'doggo' - hour or more
The waves washed her dose of lead
She made her way to the shore'
Your story poem conveys your admiration for the lady's determination and grit, and justly so. Good luck in the contest, my friend.
Hugs, Bev

What a powerful, gut wrenching poem about a WWII nurse. There were so many heroes and heroines. You have told this story with poetic ease. As I was reading, I knew it was a poem, but the subject was so compelling that I didn't even notice the rhyme and rhythm and other details of poem structure, I was just engrossed in the gripping story being told so smoothly and eloquently. Great job. This deserves the six that I don't have. Ken

What a marvellous and wonderful story of that famous lady and thenon forgotten war in the Pacific. The phrases are so realistic I can see the terrible picture you have presented, and in rhyme. Well written and memorable. Lesley.J.Mooney

You've got really good imagery here...very deftly painting scene after scene. I especially like the way your lines balance...no meter that I can detect, but still stable and consistent.
Good stuff. :)

Hello hobopoet - I wouldn't know a meter if I fell over it...only the gas meter LOL. I write from the heart, do a lot of investigating about the subjects and I love the challenge of rhyming quatrains. Thank you for reading and glad you liked it. Cheers, Kay.

War is so horrible and the bravery of those who fight is be on belief. But the brave women's stories have often been neglected. This is a beautiful poem in honor of them.

A NASTY WAR TO SAY THE LEAST SO MANY MEN DIED BEFOR THEY COULD GET TO SHORE AND TO GET HELP FOR THEIR OTHER MATES WHO WERE WOUNDED. THEY MOWED THEM DOWN LIKE THEY WOULD MOW THE GRASS.

Barbara, Thank you for reading. Did you like the poem? :-) Kay.
-
your poem is number one in my opinion, good work
-
Tanka you - how are you managing in the snow? I see on TV America is having terrible weather?
-
I live in Fla no snow just cold as the dickens 28 for tonight and the temp. is dropping fast it is 6:24pm and already 35
-
Fla is that Florida? We are in a severe drought and heatwave - 40c which is around 110F I think. The monsoon rains are coming, last year we had floods. It is 10.30am here.
-
YES THAT IS CORRECT-SUNNY OLD FLORIDA-USA-
OH! MY! HOPE YOU CAN STAY COOL AND NOT GET HIT BY THE BAD WEATHER. ARE YOUR MONSOONS LIKE OUR HURRICANES?
-
Nope, Not as bad - monsoons are life-giving rain that comes to quench the thirst of the dry outback. Sometimes we have cyclones off the coast. :-)

SRE THE CYCLONES LIKE OUR TORNADOS
-
In a way - they come in from the sea because Australia is an island surrounded by water. We have much damage when they do land on the coast.
