Beautifully written poem including the minds of the soldiers who survived and lost what no one could replace. A soul, and as a family member of an honorary warrior, I've tried for years to heal a heart like this man speaking yet it's harder than it looks.

Very well put.
There is the thoughts of those young men who went to war believing in it being the right thing having to suddenly confront the reality of the death of friends and the hard hitting reality that they could be next.
Thanks for sharing.

I like this poem. The horrors and its results are very well
portrayed. The picture as well as the poem is superb. It touched my whole being. The rhyme and rhythm...the image and message are, to me, not only captivating, they strike the inner core. I have had 4 brothers in the service of United States of America who fought with gallantry and honor...and I can relate very well. Thanks for sharing. Dom

What a poignant heart wrenching poem. So many brave young men were lost in that, and subsequent wars.
One would think we would learn from history, but it seems we never have or will.
You wrote this so sympathetically. Thank you for sharing.

Another graphic poem on this subject which gives the sense of dwindling hope as comrades-in-arms become a dwindling host. Your implied double meaning in "young lions run with pride" stands out and makes one think.

I appreciate your dedication to Pam.
We have lost a lot of our fellow poets on this site.
Their voices and blithe spirits are always mourned and missed.

"The company we keep" what a great title! honestly the title-for me-is sometimes the hardest part, but you chose one which was very captivating and made me want to read the poem even though I would normally bypass a poem written about war. The poem is well written, intriguing and brings a new light to an otherwise ordinary topic. thanks for sharing!!

This was outstanding and one of the best poems combining war and Christianity I have ever read. It reminded me of how Christian men prayed for God to spare them in Korea during the infamous cold mountain battles that took place. I had tears then and do now reading this. Thanks for reminding me of what should have meaning and value. Wonderful, memorable. One I will read over and over again. Stan

The horrors of war are so aptly described through the eyes of a soldier in this poem; what emotion, and no sparing of vivid imagery either. Nicely done.

You gave me an insightful experience about the war. Past, present,or future we have to be decisive about the soldiers that serve the country. They give us experience, timeless efforts, and memories to remember. Your poem was amazing in its verses and it was well thought of. I enjoyed n reading your poem. Thanks for the read. "your so vein" means mood or humor.
