Interesting picture. I gather that this is about someone's self worth shattered, but as to why is his soul denied? Not sure. A bit vague. I think if you picked one of these lines and concentrated only on that, that would be better. Great flow, and ends with an excellent question. Thanks for sharing. Les

gw: Excellent ways of describing man with the world attacks of pain and destruction. Man can be jealous, bitter, harmed by others and you can see that in your poem. I know a guy that got bitter from his employer and turned to his buddies who were involved with meth. Makes you think.

You tackle a subject matter here that I feel is too often overlooked. The wellbeing destroyed due to lack of self preservation ... This to me is the crux of the matter. We cannot love others if we do not love ourselves. Well done.

From the picture and the words here. This poor fellow seems very lost. This was a well written poetic voice with good emotions in its poetic analogies. I enjoyed reading and writing this response for it... John

We have a picture of a man almost stripped of his manhood but forced to confront his God. Why does God overwhelm him so ruthlessly? It is to forge an eternal covenant between man and the Supreme Being and the bidding proves something inevitable. Man is God's image. See the Book of Job; the high point of the Old Testament. Man can only be measured in the presence of a Superior being.

I don't know why...when I think about the question that was asked...what good is a man? I think about that verse in the Bible Matthew 16:26 "For what will it profit a man if he gains the whole world and forfeits his soul? Or what will a man give in exchange for his soul?" A man is only as good as he believes he is...
Great question to ponder on...

This is a brilliantly written poem Gary, I too went through a really bad phase 8 months ago, so my own self preservation was almost totally destroyed, fortunately I have a wonderful family who pulled me back, thank you for this soul searching gem.
