This is absolutely true Michael, and I can assure you it is true for everyone. Once in a while a jerk shows up but they do not last very long. They are weeded out without the slightest bit of turmoil. I think they are ignored and get discouraged, Whatever the reason we have a wonderful community here and we are very lucky! :<) Nancy

You were one of the first people I met on site here and I really appreciate it when you review a piece (not often enough).
I have only been on site for four and a half months but my writing has been improving, I think.
You are right with the blend on the site and it is mostly a supportive environment. Other sites don't have this. I posted some work on another site and it just sat there for two weeks with one review. Competitions were awful - you were sent out to get all your friends to vote for you by alerting them on other media sites to drive in views.
Again this piece is very well written and engaging, as usual.

Sometimes I grudge the time spent on FanStory, for it does get in the way of other aspects of my life. However, I guess I'm addicted, so there is no hope for me. I've written more poetry and of a higher quality in the last year and a half than I have in all the rest of my life put together and it's a real buzz having people read it and respond to it. It's taken me a long time, but I sometimes feel these days that I am actually doing something worthwhile and of lasting value at last.

You are an accomplished writer and so there's no point in me pointing out that "it had a smooth flow", "grips the audience" etc. Makes no sense at a certain level.
You say that the reviewers are knowledgeable and "free". But mostly you get comments of no real value. They come, eat their cake of member dollars with a flattering remark, and there you are!
I think, being an accomplished writer, you should've pointed out the 'faults' in here. Because that is how we improve, whether you like it or not.

I agree my friend. I joined this site because I wanted to write for a living and find out if I was any good. I was amazed at the help I got. Like you, I don't like people and avoid them whatever possible and like you my education started here. Good luck in the contest and thank you for sharing.

I think you have translated the attraction of this site perfectly. As you know I have had my grumbles of late as the site is rather long winded since the recent revamp. However, bottom line it is a great community of mixed minds and genres. I for one have learned a great deal since joining and appreciate the thoughts and recommendations of its many members.
Your writing, as you say has improved no end and it certainly shows here.

I rarely experienced anyone offering "real help" for the writing but I'm sure they must be out there. The artwork you chose was fabulous.

I'm a recluse too. I'm an emotional sponge and I carefully choose who to be around for my own emotional health. Once I retired, I dropped people...as much as possible.
I have also noticed that's its refreshing to become acquainted with folks, spirit to spirit and not sidetracked bay anything else.
I can't get through a day without checking on friends here at this site. I defy anyone to say these friendships aren't real or as important as flesh and blood ones are.
I've noticed some newbies. This will be a good piece for them to read.
