Well deserved recognition. I like the rhymes and rythem of the poem. It lilts along on soft but sad words of past relationships. Moving, sad yet somehow uplifting. Too short to drink bad wine. I like the line

You are indeed a Country Music Artist, by virtue of this definition. "One, such as a painter, sculptor, or writer, who is able by virtue of imagination and talent or skill to create works of aesthetic value, especially in the fine arts.
2. A person whose work shows exceptional creative ability or skill.
I can easily see you in a reenactment of this mini drama, or performing this country ballad on-stage.
You use several poetic devices: flashback, analogy, archetype, and euphony with creative genius.
The repetitive use of this motif, "that glass of wine" is effectual.
I found no technical errors in your lyrical poem, Bad Wine.
I was truly a joy and a blessing to read and review such an accomplished work of art.
Thank you for sharing it with us.

Indeed, life is too short to drink bad wine, or to read bad books or bad poetry - this was anything but - although the metering was not what I'm accustomed to reading, the rhyme and near-rhyme was well done and the theme was marvelous. Well done.

Wow. What a Great piece! I don't gave any sixes but you'd get one for sure! Your flow is fantastic as is your structure and your word choices.
Somewhere beneath the grapes of wrath
is where she always stood.
That is a strong couplet. Great piece!

It has a moral twist to it Brett, beautifully written, you are an excellent writer, theme is great, articulate and has a great theme, I'm actually a songwriter Brett I've recorded a lot of songs, I'm not boasting, I'm merely qualifying myself. If this was sung as a recorded song, it would be very long, most songs are about 3 1/2 mins long, I have written one 8 1/2, and some commercially produced songs are as long as that, Pink Floyd's "the dark side of the moon" for instance. Most stations wouldn't play them, the aim is to say as much as you can in few words, with a repetitive "hook". I'm genuine in my enquiry, not trying to offend, or put down, just interested , my friend! Well done, blessings, Roy.

Another member told me you were a Songwriter. I never approached you about it because I have been told all over Nashville that my lyrics are wonderful, but no one has ever offered to record them, so I expanded them, in most cases, and am now looking to publish them eventually in a book of poetry called Reflections Of Color. I have had some of them Demo'ed around town but no major Hits recorded yet, so my testing ground for the book possibility has been this site. If another Songwriter wanted to collaborate with me on some of them, more along the lines of adding the right music, which I am weak at, I would be open to that possibility.

I have never really collaborated but always wanted to just to see what out of the "mix" but it must be in person, and I live in Australia, I have put some music to people's poetry on FS, but nothing serious, there needs to be an evenness in the meter, like a Hymn for instance, but it is possible to do the longer ones in chord progressions. But hard work! Blessings, Roy

I wonder how many stories those poor bartenders here each night? Bad Wine picks up momentum each stanza and ends very strong. I like the ending with life is too short to drink bad wine.

Well, we're all pretty aware by now that when you sit down to review a Brett Matthew West poem, you'd better have already taken a bathroom break, lol...
These lyrics speak of lost love, disappointment and loneliness -- staples of life for many. Your song/poetry is well composed and adheres to the sad, often despondent theme so prevalent in country & western music.
Nicely done, Brett. I've been reviewing a lot of your works lately. You've been quite...busy.

A lyrical poem that should be sung and not read. It's the age old adage of sob stories told to bartenders and getting some sound advice from him. "Life is too short to drink bad wine."
Just a comment
Stanza 2, line 2: I heard my bartender says to me. Include the 's' for say.
