This is a great foodie response to a writing prompt. I can hear your words sang in my ears. Lyrics have a great country music feel about it. I feel the man's dilemma and resolve. The chorus is also catchy, too. Thank you for sharing. I wish you success in the contest.

Interesting piece. I'm just wondering if it's based on reality. If not, it fits the criteria and seems to be in line with the criteria. If it is real I wonder about the writer's ability to be honest with themselves since no love can be real until another has vanished.

Bitter sweet when one thinks the grass is greener on the other side. I love how you show, one must be finished and a flame extinguished, before lighting a new. Yet loving one, and longing for another, tends to be a theme of many.
Great work!

You have managed to bring out to the reader the exact state in which the writer is in through carefully chosen words."My mind kept on aching, my heart kept on breaking..." Great picture to complement your story. Best wishes. From Praise000

What no bacon?
Sorry love was mistaken...
perhaps you're forsaken
Now your heart is achin'
Maybe if there'd been bacon
Sorry I haven't eaten yet ...great song made my tummy rumble
God bless

This indeed read like the lyrics to a country music song. Maybe someone will pick it up and it will become a hit.
Enjoy your eggs over easy and warm coffee. Patricia

It seems as if the "cock" in this hen house has flown his coup for another chick.
Hey, if you've got eggs over easy, and black coffee to warm you, you've got something, at least.
Good rhyming and story. It follows the sad, despondent theme of a country & western song quite well.
Best of luck to you in the contest...~Dean

Appreciate these comments and your support Dean. I really was challenged by a Fanstorian to write a Country song about food and will be waiting to see how well I actually did.

I think you'll do well, Brett. You should, anyway.
Again, good luck...~Dean ;)

I thought to myself: "Hang on this isn't about food, it's about being dumped!" And then again, although it is about being dumped it is also about comfort eating and that leads to obesity so it isn't just a trite little piece of C&W it is about a major problem that is affecting the affluent countries of the world! Gosh! I can make even eggs over easy sound internationally important. I liked this lots. As an Englishman I'm not absolutely sure what 'eggs over easy' are but I sure like the sound of them! Please tell me. Well done and good luck in the competition.

Eggs over easy is a quick method of briefly frying eggs on one side, then quickly turning them over to the other side without breaking the yoke, but only for a brief frying on that side as well. Thanks for your comments and support. Like I said I had a Fanstorian challenge me to write a Country song about food, something I had never even thought of doing, so naturally I just had to. The contest will see how well they go over on this site. Glad you enjoyed it.

Excellent photo of fried eggs that complements your poem perfectly. I can see this can be sung, so a song-lyric. I really enjoyed the refrain, best lines as well. Best wishes for the prompt.

Thank you for your comments and support. I have written Country song lyrics about a whole lot of things but never food. Didn't know I could until I was challenged by a Fanstorian to do so. So, I created this little contest, mostly to see how well these lyrics go over on this site. Will be interesting to find out. Appreciate your review.
