Excellent entry for the city-haiku contest...Powerfully voiced with superb brevity and effect single-word satori lines. It meets all the requirements, as far as I can tell. fine alliteration in each haiku. The closing note is pitch perfect: gratitude...which they certainly deserve. Congrats...this is a strong contender for my vote.

Warmly, rd

no truer words were spoken...I donate to the vets and animal shelters...our vets put their loves on the line for us...died when we didn't want to,..they deserve to be respected and honored when they come home...and should be taken care of...as they were taking care of us...so very well written...Luff Linda xxoo

The message this haiku sent is very strong. I like a haiku that is visual and has vivid imagery; this one does not seem to capture that as well. The last line "gratitude" didn't seem to fit with the other two before it, otherwise I thought this poem was pretty good. Keep writing!

Excellent haiku suite on a topic that should be dear to us all - our veterans who have served the country and too many find themselves destitute and homeless. Yes, the government needs to do more to help those we owe a debt of gratitude to. Well done. Good luck in the contest.

This suite of haikus really makes the reader stop and think about the injustices suffered by those who risked their lives for their country. You did a tremendous job of expressing their plight with very few words. This contest has a gazillion rules which you followed with ease. Best of luck in the contest with this excellent entry. Blessings, Linda

This work has reached the exceptional level

The haikus are worthy of a six, but the message even more so. One would think when going into war, congress would knowingly plan ahead for the Vet's inevitable needs. It's not like we haven't been in war before after all. Each of these stand well alone, together they serve as a strong reminder of bloody war, the aftermath, and an inactive congress who would rather move into another war than to clean up after the last one..

An effective haiku suite that focuses on the forgotten homeless vets on city streets. The urgent tone and voice of your poem resonated with me. Your poem evokes strength and compassion. Thank you for sharing. I wish you success in the contest.

We do owe our veterans a lot more than they are getting. To me though, this strays a bit from the city theme. I think your second one might be stronger if you just used "homeless" instead of "homelessness"; your third "gratitude" rather than " show gratitude". Good luck in the contest.

This haiku? is easy to understand and reward with a fiver, though it deserves more. A great veteran haiku (I ain't seen one before) and well worthy of entrance into this contest. They speak for themselves though some need a little more consideration than others. Great write. Eric
