Uplifting story. A phone call many mothers must be waiting for, yourself included. It's probably hard to watch a child take that path and feel helpless to change things. They have to hit bottom, so I've heard, and see for themselves how they're destroying their chance at happiness. I hope and pray your son wakes up soon.

As I read the ending, the phrase "It's a new dawn, a new day," came to mind. What a joyous call to receive, the moment someone wants to seek help. Hopefully, he sticks with it and gets the help he needs.

Thank you for your time to read and review. I'm so glad you got the sun alliteration. This was a tough story to write, but I pray it becomes a reality someday.

You're welcome. I'm so sorry! I'm sure it was very tough to write. Keep praying for him! I prayed for my mom for 7 years to go through the 7 Steps to Freedom to overcome depression and 2 of those years I prayed God would bring her to the end of herself. She just went through the steps a month ago.

I sensed your compassionate heart as I read this. Your author notes shed light onto why you understand what Mary is feeling as she waits for and receives that all-important phone call.
sun was just pe(e)king over
I like the symbolism of the sun rising to greet a new day as he greets a new phase in his life. The sunlight banishes the darkness.
I hope you get the call you hope and pray for.

Yeah, I'm waiting for one, too, my friend. The problem is, I've had it several times, just for him to fall back into his issues again. One day, though, I think of him with a job, a family and a big smile. I love the message in your story, and of the emotion you injected into it.
Thanks for sharing,
Rhonda

I hope you get the call. Drugs, alcohol or whatever the reason, the victim needs to get help. My son in law died from an overdose because he refused to get help.

I wondered if this was based off of some truth that maybe you were experiencing. It is wonderfully written. You did such a great job with the set-up to the actual phone call. I know you probably aren't looking at this has an actual story, but I would love to read more. What got him into needing rehab? How did he do in rehab? Again, I am simply asking these rhetorically; as the reader, I would love to know. Great writing!

Thank you for your time to read and review. This story represents a wish. I can only hope I get such a phone call from my son. This will become a chapter in a book I'm working on about 'One Man's Journey' to health. I SO appreciate your thoughts and ALL of the stars.
