This poem made me like dogs a little more, I'm not much of an animal lover. But I was pulling for the pet dog, they are really part of the family. And the child loyalty to his pet is admirable. I wish you well as a poet.

Thank you, Harris Williams, for your review and for wishing me well as a poet. We were all pulling for the dog and the boy. Thanks again.

Yes, Meia! I rehearsed this song in my car during commute and it sounds great in playback. I can't wait to perform this before audiences. Thank you for your review.

Way out in California far from New Orleans
Not too far from the valleys where they grow the soybeans
there lived a city boy named Andre B. Goode
Leave his dog behind? No, he never, never would
To his mom and dad he said "you gotta stop the car
Poor Buddy wandered off, I don't think he went too far"
Looking back behind what do you think he saw
Old Buddy running faster than gangsta from the law
Run Buddy run, run Buddy run
Run buddy run,
You're the best dang old dog
I think I ever saw
Jump Buddy jump
Jump Buddy jump
you can jump far better than
Jeremiah's old bull frog!
Love Chuck Berry,
loved your story in a poem
Good luck with your song/poem

Oh, thank you, RS, for your parody of my parody. It is delightful and you are quite creative. Thanks also for wishing me luck with my song.

-Good image; I wouldn't
want to leave that dog behind either!
-Author notes are appreciated.
-I like the story you tell in your song.
-I also like how the chorus nicely
answers each verse.
-The inclusion of Chuck Berry's
rendition is very good. Will you
do his moves when you perform, Sis Cat?!
-Good luck in the contest, with your
performance, and the making of a video.

No, I can't do Berry's classic duck walk, but I have worked out gestures, pauses, voices, and expressions during rehearsals. I can't wait to perform this. The heart of this is the story. Thank you for wishing me luck in my contest, performance and video.
-
You are very welcome and deserving of the good wishes. I agree that the story is at the heart of it, and I know you will do a good job. I hope we get to see the video.
-
Pam, here is my video of my first public performance of "Don't Let My Dog Be Left Behind" in front of one hundred chanting teenagers in Pinole, California. Enjoy:

Thanks for sharing the video, Sis Cat. The kids seemed to enjoy it, and I am sure you had fun, too!
Comment from Poetic Friend
As an animal lover, I thoroughly appreciate these song lyrics. I would love to hear the lyrics to music. Seemingly, the music will have a lot of rhythm.
I love the lyrics, but somehow I think the parents should be the ones insisting bringing the dog along and not thinking about lighting the load. It could be just me. Regardless, the lyrics are a hit.
Thank you for sharing.

Oh, thank you, Poetic Friend. I knew I had a potential hit on my hand when I sang the chorus to clients and coworkers and they laughed and sang along. Yes, the music will have a lot of rhythm. I am glad you appreciated my lyrics. Thanks.

You did an excellent job. Your author's notes was right on your target audience. I'm partial to Disney films, although I'm an adult. Your poem is just like something you would see in a Disney film. Great job, very enjoyable read.

Yes, jaded831, I love your comparison to Disney films. I think there is one of a dog and cat who traveled across the country to find their owners after the pets were left behind. I targeted this song for a specific audience. I can?t wait to perform it for kids and teens on Thursday. Thank you for your review..
Comment from Dean Kuch
How could he!
Buddy doesn't look to be that large of a dog so he shouldn't have been too much of a burden.
However, the "burden" of guilt the poor kid's dad would have had to endure if Buddy hadn't managed to catch back up with his family would be a Beast of Burden to bear indeed. He'd never be able to forgive himself because his son wouldn't allow him to.
That boy would remind dear old Dad of his dastardly deed until his dying breath.
Nice writing, Andre.

Yes, Dean, dad was was dastardly. I play up his part when I switch voices and sing in a deep, angry voice. Thank you for your review.

This speaks a sad experience of a boy who loved much his dog Buddy that somehow left behind during a family road trip and boy's passionate love expressed so minutely; I liked.

G'day Andre.
Fantastic work, my talented friend. I sang it along with the tunes from the songs you mentioned and it works well.
What a hoot to be able to perform this for your class. I wish I could be there.
Don't forget to add the video and I'll check it out.
Great job.
Cheers Fez

Thank you, Fez, for your review. I have been rehearsing this song for the past three hours and have my gestures, expressions, and pauses down. I still have to work out how to use a mic with this song. I am looking forward to my performance of my final on Tuesday and at an open mic on Thursday. I'll post a video when I film one. Thank you for your review.

Fez, as promised, here is my video of "Don't Let My Dog Be Left Behind" performed in front of one hundred teenagers. Enjoy:

Hahahaha! Man that is super good.
I just watched it with Delia a couple of times and she loved it as well.
The kids had a ball while you performed it as I could hear.
You are a very talented man, my friend.
Thanks for remembering to send it to me.
Bravo, take a bow ruuuffff ruuuuufffff!
Cheers Fez and Delia.

Oh, thank you, Fez and Delia, for your glowing review.
Bow wow!

I read your poem all the way through before it dawned on me that you were writing song lyrics. I read it back through again and I could almost hear the melody. Well done.
