A little bit of tension, a little light heartedness from the flirty Helen and finally finding Alain. Leaving us hanging on the ladder with him till the next chapter. Well done Tony, now I've finally caught up,
cheers.

Thanks, Valda, for your review of this and for taking the time to go back and read the earlier chapters. I also need to do that for one or two of the stories I'm following. Time has been at a bit of a premium in recent weeks! I appreciate your continued interest. Best wishes, Tony.

Hi there,
This a another well-written instalment, learning more about Helen's past and the hunt. I wonder where the two men fit in, especially given Helen & Charles' inauspicious first meeting...
Good stuff

One gets the feeling that the mysterious gardener with the grey streak in his hair, are about the same as the two sinister men asking if Fifi is for sale or not, and Charles tells them to bugger off, much to their chagrin. So the twosome are attracting attention, not sure why yet, because of their exploits I guess, well done, Tony, blessings, Roy

A very well-written intense poem about the characters hanging around under seemingly false pretences. There are very little strangers we can trust these days.

Enjoyed all your poetic descriptions, Tony. Would a French woman really come out in curlers? Somehow, I always imagine them as so stylish. Glad for the break from the childhood trauma story to a more touristy chapter, except for the mysterious snoopers.

Thanks, Helen. I've seen the older inhabitants of many parts of the world come out into their gardens in dressing gowns and slippers to retrieve milk and newspapers! I don't think France would be an exception to that!
It's interesting trying to balance Helen's backstory against the quest in France - some people seem to be enjoying the one, some the other!

This episode seemed to me to be dominated by that aful (though mildly funny) joke about the man going sideways through the doors. It was though typical of the stupid things that come intour minds before sleep claims us. I dread to think what has been done to Fifi, but the earlier model of Citroen referred to was the Traction Avant, an executive car way ahead of its time when first produced in 1934. The Slough version of the 11L was called the Light Fifteen and the long wheelbase 11 was called the Big Fifteen. There's another useless piece of information for you.
So the mysterious gardener with the white streak in his hair shows up. Something remarkable could happen next time either here in Giverny or possibly in Bangkok.

Interesting information about the old Citroens. We had one like that when I was growing up in Singapore in the 1950s - I'm not sure which one though.Strangely enough, I can still remember its number-plate, SF526 - less cars on the roads those days!

Funny about that number plate. I can remember my father's car's plate when I was 8 years old EAU683 but I can't member any of my own including the present one. Part of the aging process I imagine.

Hi Tony, a great continuation and the mystery is thickening. Who on earth are the two men following them? And yet again, I ask myself who Helen really is. I'm looking forward to the continuation,
La Monde under one arm. = Le Monde under one arm. The newspaper's name is 'Le Monde.' All the best. Ulla:))

Thanks for your read and review, Ulla - also for picking up on my French gaffe! I never was too great and remembering the gender of things! Of course, I do remember the German paradox of a young girl being masculine! LOL

It sounds even more mysterious with those men so interested in Fifi. Maybe Charles has opened up something with his search that he shouldn't have. Seems it might become dangerous now. Eager to know more soon. 8-)

Yes, there may be danger lurking. Not sure yet if it is because of Charles's investigations or Helen's background. All may become clearer in time.

This is a good read TFAWCUS. Chapter 16 huh? Sometimes I wish I could read nonstop all the writer and poets on FanStory. My eyesight ain't what it used to be, but I'll backtrack you. :) Thank you form sharing.
You could correct this but I know it's people talk. "wanted to know who the car belonged" (to whom)

Thanks very much for your interest and comments, poetwatch. Yes, I agree that 'whom' would be more correct grammatically, but probably not the way someone would say it in colloquial speech.

Now, I wonder what those men want. I think Helen knows, but isn't saying anything. They don't sound like the type of men one would want to invite to dinner. At least Alain might have been found. Fingers crossed.
Confucius certainly had a sense of humour! LOL, I curled up at that one. Excellent part, Tony, and I'm looking forward to the next part. :)) Sandra xx
One little nit.
They has (had) not quite been drawn together

Very many thanks for your review, Sandra. I'm feeling a bit guilty that I haven't reviewed the last couple of chapters of your story yet. I'm certainly enjoying them! A difficult time at the moment, supporting my wife through the final days of her mother's life. I hope to get back into the routine again soon.
Thanks for picking up the nit. There always seems to be at least one that slips through the net!
