Wow Sally I got a smile and a tear from your heartwarming story. A smile because of the fun as the turkey started to run from the knife and a tear for you brought to life memories of family, sharing a meal together and getting spattered and laughing about it. Thank you sharing a memory from the past. Have a Happy Thanksgiving with those you love and give God Your thanks. Bless you and yours.

Dear poetwatch, thank you! You are so kind! I am glad you could laugh with me! I was making cranberry sauce today and after I finished, I wrote this. It was so fresh in my mind. So glad you stopped by!
Have a blessed Thanksgiving and hopefully some laughs!

I just love your personal stories because they mirror my own experiences in so many ways. I was nine in '67 and yes, I pulled relish tray duty. I think we got our electric knife and color TV both that year. I don't know which was more mind-boggling. I can't get enough of your family stories, Sally.................meeshu

Oh Meeshu, we are so much alike I should have known we were from the same era. We finally got a color television when my mom remarried. It was gigantic and took up half the living room. I inherited the old black and white tube until it finally croaked. Good old days...so glad to share them with you!
    All my best,

so many great memories. I taped a transistor radio onto my handle bars so I could hear the Beatles newest song on my way to school. better than a Boombox.

Oh my! I went to sleep every night with a stack of 45?s stacked in my little portable box record player. It played until it could not play anymore. I had usually stacked em in there so high, the arm would get stuck. That explains our collective knowledge of rock n? roll music. Your were a genius with the radio strapped to your bike. We did what we had to do for cheap entertainment! Sal ;+)

a genius in radio technology, yes. the same genius who clothes-pinned his baseball cards in his spokes because it sounded cool. Reggie Jackson, Rod Carew, Lou Brock ROOKIE cards.

Oh no, you didn?t! I used the Bicycle brand playing cards and a perfectly good deck of Old Maid! Set me back $.25 cents. Maybe I am a genius after all...

the Old Maid deck may be valuable, more valuable than my first run numbered "White Album" that my cat scratched into particulate matter.

How wonderful to turn in a near-disaster into a wonderful memory. Sometimes, they're the best kind. I could picture everyone laughing and falling off chairs. I thought at first the turkey was still frozen. lol
