We have been fighting each other for thousands of years. Everyone thought WWI was going to put an end to it all. As long as human nature rules, it will never happen. I like how you showed us the history of war from the beginning on down to now. I wonder where it will all end. Your poem is beautifully written and very thought-provoking.

Thanks for the most-kind words, they are much appreciated. I can't help thinking with each new one, we get closer to the one that will end them all... and not in a good way. Cheers, Craig

You may be more right than you know.

Wow! What way to wake me up. The poem speaks for it's self,
"but I suspect it could well be
the Jester has the final word..." I think you hit the nail on the head here.

Thanks so much, Steve, for the glowing rating and very kind comments. Speaking of waking up, to do so while reading such a great review is most uplifting. Much appreciation, Craig

Hello Craig,
I so appreciate your references to mythological gods and the point that since the beginning of time man has been at war with his fellow man. What makes all of this so intolerable is that with a flick of the wrist, we can conveniently turn the television's channel - or swipe to another page - and can sink into apathetic oblivion...until the next conflagration...
Thank you for sharing...

Thank you for the generous, thoughtful response, Diane, as well as the lovely shiny stars. Both are very much appreciated. At times, it seems no matter how often we change channels, it's just more of the same. Most grateful, Craig

Hi Craig, it's great to see you back with a poem and a very good one at that. Sadly, I think your right. There will always be wars. Man cannot stop fighting each other. It's a wonderful poem and very well written. All the best. Ulla:))

Thanks so much for the lovely comments, Ulla. A little self-imposed exile every now and then is good for the soul lol. Cheers, Craig

Excellent message, filled with wisdom. And you also did a wonderful job constructing this poem.
Your rhyming words were well chosen and I know it takes twice the effort to have them all rhyme in each verse. Well done. Hugs, Lou

Unfortunately, I think you are right. I want to dream of a world where there are no wars, but I think it will never happen.
Life would be so much better if we got along.
Thanks for sharing.

Comment from Hayley Zemontas
A unique and raw poem about the nature of human beings and how we carry many of the same traits and instincts as animals. However where animals kill to survive as part of the food chain, humans seem to wage war purely because they can. The world is so brutal nowadays that it can be terrifying to watch the news and see yet another tragic incident that's occurred somewhere in the world. You capture this perfectly with the line 'we kill the brave, enslave the weak then watch it on the nightly news'. Sums it up perfectly. I found it very honest and emotive.

Thanks, Hayley, for the kind and thoughtful response. I have to agree with you, but I would never equate human behaviour with that of other animals... to do so would be an insult to the animals, I think. Most grateful -- Craig

This is true, I think humans have some animal traits but as you said, animals are far more honourable and do not kill for sport

This skillfully-written, thought-provoking piece vividly conveys the theme
of the world's condition--the wars, inequality, etc., and whether it will ever end.

You seemed to have summed up the madness and hate in the world of today quite well in these verses Craig. 'The war to end all wars' what a macabre joke that turned out to be. Good to see your name come up again Craig,
cheers,
valda

Thanks so much for the kind words, Valda. I'm most grateful. I don't suspect we'll ever see and end to the fighting until we see the end of us, sadly. Cheers, Craig
Comment from C. Gale Burnett
I learned so much from reading this wonderful poem ... the meaning of xenophobes, myopic view, and that Anzac Day is celebrated by Australians and new Zealanders to commemorate all the soldiers who died in wars, conflicts and peacekeeping operations. Of course, due to my ignorance, I had to look all of this up (LOL).
I enjoyed reading your thoughts on war and religion. Loved the 5th stanza.
This was a very thought-provoking poem and a joy to read :)

Ignorance would be not knowing, and seeing no reason to want to know. I think the effort made to decipher new words is a sign of dedication to understanding - the opposite of ignorance :) One of the great things about a site such as this is we can all learn new things. Thanks for the lovely, kind, words and I'm glad you enjoyed :)
