This is truly a beautiful poem. It talks so much about temporary loss, which people do not address very often. You were so clear about your emotion, another action not often seen. You chose an image that is the perfect accompaniment to your writing. Best of luck in the contest!

Comment from Dolly'sPoems
There is some sadness here as war changes people, we are delicate and seeing death on a daily basis and living in fear of losing your life can completely change our perspective, these are the difficulties soldiers live with when they return from battle and in your story this solider still had a connection with his daughter and eventually opened up. Your words are well rhymed and heartfelt, love Dolly x

Letter to Dad, is a fine poem you wrote in honor to your father. How wonderful for you and your mother to have each other. Good job.

Thanks Gypsy, glad you enjoyed it! It's not quite autobiographical, although it's close. I like your perception that it's me who's the daughter too. From one Gypsy to another xoxoxoxo
Comment from Lil' Mormon Boy
Very good poem it had very good rhymes and meter. It has to be so hard on families when their parent or spouse has to leave for an extended period of time like military service.
Thanks for sharing.

Okay, you brought tears to my eyes with this one. It points to the sacrifice that the families left behind make so that the rest of us can enjoy the freedoms the soldiers go off to protect.
Thanks for sharing.
Thankfully, I had one six left for the week. You deserve it.

Thanks very much Mrs. KT. My daughter's seen the first poem I mentioned in my notes, but not this one. Might just send it to her...
