You did a good job, Mystery Author, describing this situation from the POV of a child. Your attention to detail fleshes out the sad story. But it isn't without hope. I like the positive note, filled with love, that your story ends on. Thanks for sharing and best wishes. Respectfully, Jan

This is a beautiful story that captures the love between a father and daughter. It's a sad tale, but you described well the love and understanding that brings families together after the death of a loved one. Best of luck in the contest.

This is a beautiful story. It is hard to deal with loss and even harder to explain it to a young child. This sounds like a ture story. I hope it isn't but the explanation of why Mother is no longer around is a great one. I know a lot of family have to deal with kind of loss.

Beth, thank you for your review and reflection. It is so true the depth of loss comes to the innocent.

beautiful and very moving story, and the kids are always putting things into a greater light - "Daddy, I'm glad that mommy is no longer sick, and I will tell God tonight, "thank you" and ask him to make my daddy no longer sad."
Thank you for sharing and good luck with the contest.

Iza, thank you! Children do seem so much more resilient than we give them credit for.

What a heart-wrenching story... But the way you explained things to the child ... both acknowledging the sadness and explaining a resolution to her anger ... wonderful!
Best of luck with the "Through the eyes of a child" writing prompt contest.

Thank you for your validation.

No child should have to go through this, but many do and it is of course sad and hard to handle. I think this conversation comes across as realistic and as a very tender caring way to handle such a situation.
