You certainly have written a Fabulous Free Verse, poem. Those ties I am so familiar with. When my husband passed away there must have been close to one hundred. I was so sorry to see them go. But then as you say we have our own ties too, family ties that can never be given away.

Ralf, I too still have a ridiculous number of ties, and never wear them any longer, I was thinking I might make a piece of art some day..we shall see.

This brought a spontaneous smile-- My dear departed Dad loved his ties!
He could choose shoes socks, suit, shirt in ten minutes yet would stand before his dresser mirror holding one tie up to his neck and then another... Often going through the meticulous (Ex-Marine) tie-knot routine only to mumble "No, that's not the one."--and begin again. I think I saw him in a bow tie ONCE...one the occasion of my brother's wedding. He wasn't a fan... Also, he came back from a business trip to Austin, Texas with a Bolo only to be mercilessly teased. Nope--the traditional necktie was his thing...and may I add he aced the "family tie" thing as well!--Karenina

Hello my friend
I enjoyed your Free Verse poem about ties. Nice entry for the "Ties" event in "The Fabulous Free Versers Club". I can imagine all the different types of ties you describe so well. Good job.

A very well-written free verse poem about the precision whereby a gentleman seek for the perfect tie to fit the suite and the occasion. It is a task with much detail.

Sandras, thank you, certainly ties are fast becoming a lost fashion statement.

Who knew the thought that went into selecting a tie. You packed a lot of information into this well constructed poem. And I also appreciated the deeper level of thought that you expressed so creatively. Well done. Hugs, Lou

Hi, JLR,
A nice fast-paced poem about the versatility of ties.
Note: I found two small errors, in the second paragraph--there should be a space between appreciate and the . And wore should be past participle "worn."
Otherwise, a pretty cool poem.
Best wishes,
Cindy

Great job on this write, Jim. I love your free verse approach using multiple internal rhymes. You covered the whole range of neck ware for men and used fun anecdotes to showcase each one.... now for your piece on family ties.... that one could be challenging. Great job!!

I've always loved seeing ties on men.
When I was sixteen, I went to the men's section of a large Department store, and asked a man to teach me how to tie a tie. My 7-year-old brother wanted to wear a tie to Church.

What a neat sister you are! To be so astute to find instruction for your brother to be able to tie a tie correctly instead wearing as silly clip on!

Choosing ties as the literal, the physical, and the metaphorical is not an easy thing to put in perspective, but nevertheless, to know perceptive takes the sub-clausively Well. Well done my friend, this is an excellent free verse, language rich and well done, blessings, Roy
