I know this is meant to be a romance novel, and I am enjoying it for that. However, Seth - the police chief - seems to be on the sidelines of this accident. He wants to keep a low profile, to play it by the book because of his feelings for Emma, but he's the chief of police. And Emma doesn't have to stay with him, she could stay with her parents. I guess my point is that they say they are not boyfriend and girlfriend, but everything they do says that they are.

I didn't find any corrections - very well written, Barbara.

Seth wants her to take care of her, and he will. Seth will take a more active role in part 2. Thank you for the kind review.

This is poor girl is always haveing something happen to her. The teenage guy is getting to be a real problem for the town. Hit and run is pretty serious. You have a lot of action going on in this story.

I'm puzzled about one thing, Barbara. Do people really act like this in 2023? It seems so Victorian. Back in my time in the late sixties and early seventies it was stuff from our parents and grandparents even. But it's well written, I have to give you that. Ullaxcx

Thank you for the kind review. It depends on who you are and how you were raised. I have neighbors across the street me, they their kids were raised like this and remain the same way.

I'm wondering if that crash was deliberate. It seems too much of a coincidence that he was there at the right time. Might be my suspicious mind, but a lot of funny business has been going on around Emma. I think Emma and Seth are getting a lot closer now. Things will soon start to happen!! Another excellent chapter, Barbara. Well done. Sandra xxx

I don't drive never have. I have been a passenger in cars driven by someone who more than likely were under the influence of alcohol. I did not at the time realize the danger. I do now and would never agree to ride with someone compromised by intoxicating substances. I hope that this repeat offender is prosecuted fully, despite the attempted interference of his father.

Ah, the absolute importance of a hug! Another entertaining and often intriguing instalment in your story. Your characters, dialogue and action are all so convincing. Well done.

Structurally, this is well written. But I would think about this chapter again. I know you won't, just saying. And having Emma as a victim yet again. She has to be the unluckiest woman in a small town, in the world. Remember, 16 days.

notes:

Keith sighed. "Emma, listen to them." He nodded toward Seth. "Maybe she'll listen to you."

-Why? They met two weeks ago. They aren't dating. They're barely friends. Why would a father say such a thing?

"I doubt it." He knelt in front of where she sat and took her hand. "Emma, I'm taking your dad back to church. I'm sure your mom's worried. I'll come to the hospital and stay with you until you're released.

- Sorry, I get why this is happening, but it doesn't make sense. Why wouldn't her father go with her? Why wouldn't he stay with her until she's released? Why wouldn't both parents rush to the hospital? Seth isn't a family member (Emma could have unseen injuries, that require consent). And Seth wouldn't leave a crime scene, given who he is.
