Barbara, the last part, starting...After the family - saying BETTY began passing the food.
then you go on to say. Why does Daddy keep staring at Troy and me?(this reads as if Betty is asking herself the question, when I'm sure it's Anna.. thus it needs to be separated by a space and start with
Anna glanced around (Hope that makes sense.)

Very well written i thought. I could picture the tension in the air. Anna is in quite a sad way with her father. I hope things work out for her.

This was a masterful write and a dignified write. It was sheer joyous entertainment to read. Great pace and impeccable flow from start to finish set this one apart from the pack of mediocrity. Thanks for sharing it here.

OK so we have a new complication in Anna's life, the unforgiving and strait-laced parents. Of course this has a bearing on her self-esteem, but I wonder if you are weakening the focus on domestic abuse...

    I don't think so, because many people who are abuse have an underlying factor of a bad self-esteem. That's why many women can't get out, they have no place to do. At the beginning of this story, Anna told Paul that the first time Bobby abused her, she asked her parents for help and they refused. Thank you for the kind review.

Wow! Barbara now there is another twist in the tale with her parents arriving on the scene. This is a great part and I thoroughly enjoyed the read. Well done indeed.

I wasn't expecting this twist but it fits into the story nicely. Anna has some choices to make and I think you show her getting stronger in a great way.
