Hello gw,
Another sobering thought on the price of war, and the emotional consequences of those who serve. You do a good job describing the feelings of our fighting men; the nightmare of the unknown faced each day, and the chance of himself or a friend, not returning from a mission. Actually, we all face that chance of not coming back, each time we leave our homes. The battle of life and death is everywhere, and we must respect its presence as we try to enjoy those fleeting moments in between.
I appreciated your emotional, and insightful presentation of inevitability. Well done, and best wishes, Bill

This is very good recollection from the persona of what the day of war will bring, you just never know, as it is all too much to bear, a cross that young men bore during that time of WW1, & still to this day....Though, think it was even worse than in many ways..Thanks for not letting us not forget.

Love the picture, love the words, love the sentiment. What's really nice about this is you didn't wait for some anniversary or holiday (unless I missed something) to honor our fighting men and women.

So many lives lost in WWI and all wars. You give the soldiers a wonderful tribute in your well written poem.

This is a wonderful, haunting depiction of the terrors and horrors of war. Facing the enemy with your brothers in arms, knowing that at the end of the day there will be a lot of holes where people once stood. And knowing that you may be one of those holes.

This is an excellent commemoration piece. War is a terrible profit machine that is detrimental to the advancement of our species. However, with that said, it is still important to remember the sacrifices that have been made to get to where we are. Great work on this piece, thanks for sharing.

Greetings deepwater,
This is an exceptional poem that truly captures the spirit of its subject. Such a time in our history! We look back and marvel at the simplicity of the conflict and think "never again" but the horrors of war continue. A moody piece, well done. My best to you. ;) Chrisfiore

It is sad to think of our dear young brave soldiers whose lives ended in the battles of war. Their memories live deep in our hearts, and as we ponder on about the life of soldiers, uncertain thoughts keep on circling in our minds.
This poem displays deep concern expressed in the words of your write delivered in expressive language. Thanks for sharing.} Lin

beautifully written with a feel of honor for what a soldier endures firsthand. There were some commas needed, but other than that I truly enjoyed this poem.
