Your descriptions of the terrain are particularly good. I can picture the desert and feel the dust.
Voices and hallucinations give this a spine tingling effect.
The hawk leaves an eerie feeling as it first flies with the Cadillac and then disappears in an instant.
The scarf scene has a great mix of the terrifying and the humorous in it.
The appearance of Senor Pasquale was dramatic and effective. Doctor Morales is now completely at his mercy. No one in town will be coming to look for the good doctor once his account is taken care of.
A well executed chapter, Bev. I am happy I have one last six to offer this week. This is so deserving.

Debi, thank you so very much! The fact you feel this is worthy of a six-star rating just thrills me. I had a bit of a block when it came to writing this, but finally got it shaped up pretty well. Really nice to know you enjoyed the post. And a special thanks for the depth of your review.

I was excited to see this chapter come up. I'm sure it would be one of those books I had to read in one night once it is complete.

Aw, thanks so much Debi. Will we be hearing from Piper anytime soon? I, too, am anxious to read more of your excellent story.

I have just uploaded the next chapter. I'll read it through for SPAG and post it tonight or tomorrow.
Thank you for asking.

Hi, Bev
_ Whoa, Pasquale is pulling out all the steps, so Morales is a captive audience.
_ Hmmm, and he has to watch for snakes, too!
_ You're getting things all lined up so the Morales is right where he doesn't want to be, but Pasquale is loving it.
_ Excellent chapter. (*<*)

In this part of the country, there are no snakes big enough to eat a human, but they would be oversensitive to strike out at the first provocation. Your desert would have predators. This is very well written with a smooth flow of words.
