Nicely done, Tony. It is good to take something a spur of the moment and bring beauty to, especially when closely attached.
Nothing forced here. Good use of nouns and adjectives.
Very descriptive.
My best wishes.

Thanks for reviewing this and for your kindness, RG. I'm afraid that i couldn't amass enough funny money to promote it before the contest deadline. Sorry that you weren't more rewarded for your effort than by my poor words! Best wishes, Tony

This has a poignant spot in my heart as I have one at the farm that my kids climbed on. It is gnarled and lost, but it still has life...and too many memories to let go. Will I?
Lines are perfect for the contest.

Not only a master of poetry, but a photographer, too. I really enjoyed seeing the real tree.
Such beautiful wording, occasional rhyming, and very vivid descriptions.
What can I say except "Excellent." I'm out of sixes.

I LOVE this, Tony. I am so sorry that I am out of sixes. This poetic free verse speaks to me of tenacity and strength. The determination to keep doing the best that you can. The old tree, even the bits that look dead have purpose and can create some beautiful images and memories in the minds of those that know it. I would hope that somewhere, as we near the end of our lives, that we would emulate that tree.
I hope that you are just exceptional in your poetic vision, and that you are not ill.
This poem will touch the heart of anyone who reads it. It speaks to us in two ways - From the POV of life and meeting challenges, and the POV of one who knows how all life comes to an end.

p.s. I'm in the best of health despite the maudlin thoughts that sometimes creep into my poems!

The ending made me smile in empathy. there is an ash here that is playing the same trick, playing possum except for a few leaves that appear every year. But that eucalypt certainly looks dead.
This uses rhyme both sparingly and effectively and the whole thing possesses a euphony that is brought about by a mixture of rhyme rhythm and word choice involving alliteration and consonance together - a delightful read.
