Another surprise for Charles - and your readers. I am really involved in this - and I'm sure I'm not the only one.
I found very little to suggest so had to come up with something very minor. :)
In the following, I might have put single quote marks around 'lion' but it's purely a personal choice.
"Who is this lion, anyway?" I asked.
Whether from a desire to serve to my country - delete second 'to'
Cheers

Thanks, Judy. One day, I'll manage to remove these silly mistakes before I press the 'post' button! I felt sure I had this time! Thank you for picking them up and bestowing six stars on the chapter despite them.

It's much easier to reach 150 characters if there are a few glitches to mention so don't get too careful! lol

A very well-written chapter. Interesting developments and a surprise revelation about the bomb explosion that was merely a cover up to fake Arnoux's death to the enemy.
Typo

Very many thanks for your review, Sandra, and for your sharp eye. There's always a danger when one has two major characters starting with the same letter of the alphabet and, of course, I fell into the trap!

An excellent chapter, Tony. I'm growing quite fond of Charles so I hope he hasn't bitten off more than he can chew just to prove his worth.
Only one comment. I would think a briefing room somewhere down in the basement would be brightly lit, in spite of the clandestine nature of the discussion. But it's your call of course.
An enjoyable read.

Very many thanks for your review, Julia, and for your sharp eye. Perhaps I should turn the lights up a notch or two. I'd wanted to keep Arnoux somewhat in the shadows, but can probably engineer that another way.

I've attended secret briefings. They tend to fluctuate between stolid seriousness and nervous frivolity.
-
I can identify with that, having spent two years working in the Plans and Policy division of a NATO headquarters!
-
More of stolid seriousness then!
In the Caribbean we add a dash of satire to the most serious of subjects. Most disconcerting to outsiders.

This was an excellent episode in which the whole thing begins to gel as we prepare for an expedition that has a well defined purpose. I can understand Charles' remark, however prompted. It seems he too at last understands the purpose of his prompter.

Thanks, Jim. That's two characters now that I have resurrected. This has got to stop.
