I thoroughly enjoyed this positive letter. It should remain on that board. Instead of giving in to self pity you looked around you and saw all those so much more in need or consolation. It takes a strong human to put others before himself.
Well written. Thanks for sharing. luv jada

Thank you very much. This was written at 3 in the morning, but came straight from the heart. Thanks for your feedback

Hi bhogg,
Yes, this is timely and pertinent in every age. We become so attached to our "status" in particular roles, professions or positions, we lose contact with real friends, faith and family.

Hi Patrick - you are right of course. Sometimes you have to be knocked down a little to know.

Lovely piece of work with a message especially for these times :)
This is beautiful!--After a hug and a kiss, she said, "I wonder what wonderful things God has planned for us now?"--what a loving, caring wife :)
Got a chuckle here: So, even if I never reach wide spread, widely read, fame, I will at least know I occupy a 3 inch by 8 inch spot of bulletin board. LOL!!!

Thanks RB - she is a special wife. I put her on a plane this morning. She is visiting an elderly aunt who's health is failing. She's more than a loving, caring wife. I'm never whole without her.

For something as personal and heartfelt as this, how can anything but top marks be awarded. You are right in everthing you wrote, and it deserves a wider readership than a single congregation.
I hope things have improved for you since then.

Hi Michael - in 7 years I've never approached the level of compensation or the so called "prestige" of that job. I've never been happier and get to live with my best buddy. Life's Good!

i find this to be really relatable as lots of people who are in hard times when the time to help others who seem to be worse off. well done

Beautiful letter. Your wife's reaction not only shows the level of love she has for you, but it shows your united strength and the perspective with which you've lived your life.
Really good post. Thank you for sharing your inspiring thoughts.

Positive feedback is always appreciated, but especially when it comes from someone who's work you admire. It's funny, because I've never regained the level of salary or the so called prestige of the job I lost, but I'm very happy. Makes it easy when you live with your best buddy!

You're very welcome, and I'm glad everything worked out well in the end. Money isn't everything. In fact, some days I wonder if it's much at all.

This gave me pause for thought. Everyday I wonder if this will be the day I lose my job but I have so many other blessing to be thankful for. It was a wonderful letter you wrote and I can see why they would post. It was enjoyable to read here.

bhogg,
Excellent, precise writing, with a lot of heart. I enjoyed, if that's the right word given the circumstances, your preface as much as I did your letter to the editor. If I had a six left, I'd lay it on ya!

I'll take a virtual "6" any day of the week. Thank you very much for your positive feedback.

Thank you for being an inspiration. Although I have never been fired, I technically fired myself when I retired early when I came to the realization that no matter how hard I worked, nor how much I achieved, it wasn't appreciated. Great material. ep

This is awesome. It tells us to count our blessings and pray for others. With such deep content and message, had it been posted to one of the editors you had in mind, it would not stay on the church board and been published. I'm glad you finally decided to have it published in FS, though.

Hi Belinda - I actually got calls from several newspapers who also ran the letter. It's odd, because I think some times I wrote for myself. Writing very often is a great catharsis for the soul. Bill
