you know i agree that these men and women that fight or work towards the end of war are among the bravest of our kind. i guess that is a paradox when i don't believe we should be sending our people to die, but as you say they decided and who are we to disrespect them.

Dear Deepwater:

This was exceptionally beautiful. "We fade away till the next generation..." Says so much about how many are simply forgotten or put away in memory banks.

You give each soldier the honor he deserves for: "...our service was a choice we made." They made their choice to live and possibly die for their country; and for that they should be honored as they truly are all "brothers in arms."

If you lost a loved one, my sympathy goes out to you one-hundred fold. If not, you certainly showed your love, compassion and gratitude for our men and women who serve their country, no matter what the outcome.

God bless our Troops, and God bless you. Judi

It was a good poem but it would have been a lot better as a short story. There was no rhyming or flowing with the words. It does make since but only as a short story

DEEPWATER-now you know I love me some military poetry especially being a retiree...I like that you defined that being committed to Serving Your Country-is a voluntary mission and not everyone is cut out for the assignment...I'm out of 6's but for the sheer magnitude that I'm just plain out patriot as Hell you would have gotten one....I'm going to bend one line of your poem:

We are brothers and sisters in arms-(My shout out to all my military women in services....I loved it...Free

A great piece of verse,
with a good choice of
words that speak a tribute
to those brave men who
fought for family and
countries, whom should
never be forgotten.

Well penned, Gary.
Margaret.

deepwater,

Old soldiers never die

The immortal words of Gen Douglas McArthur.

A most appropriate poem for Memorial Day.

Patriotic once again, deepwater. Good Memorial Day poem. I'd've liked to see more of the violence and atrocities faced and witnessed by soldiers. I believe this may generate more sympathy and appreciation for the reader.

I like the tough opening line. It sounds like something Clint Eastwood or John Wayne might say.

Perseverance. "Going further than expected"

Voice: A proud old veteran with a quest to express his pride in his country, his fellow citizens, and country.

Very direct.

This is very well written. I enjoyed reading this. A nice reminder of the service and sacrifice of soldiers for their
country and families.
I like these lines:
"Old soldiers never die
We fade away till the next generation is called upon for duty"
Well done.

Yes, it takes a courageous soul to relate truly to another. You have to be one to know one as the saying goes.
Your poem reminds us all of the courage of ordinary men (some only boys really) who risk their lives for their country. We should feel humbled by this descriptive poem with it's empathic sentiments. A well written free style poem.

This is excellent.

I really like this: forsaken lives This is so true. So many are never properly thanked for their service and yet, they still, proudly, do so.

I like that you mentioned this: that our service was a choice
because it is a choice and not a requirement as for so many other countries.

and because service is a choice, you are so correct about this line: Knowing we would always go a little further than requested
not that ll would push further, but most would because we are Americans.

Thank you for sharing.
